A few minutes ago I clicked on My Computer to find an extra drive called RAMDRIVE, with a question mark on it. It has no storage capacity whatsoever. Here's a screenshot:

Any idea what it is, or how to get rid of it? It's bugging me :yumyum:

if you have recently installed any programs they can create ramdisks in xp. There are other utilities similar to this. People often use this as a temporary folder as it creates the disk from your RAM ( memory ) and it gets viped out everytime you switch your pc off/on.

As i cant see how this have been installed in your system check these out.

Goto Start > Run > type "services.msc" without quotes and on services list look for "RamDisk" and if there is a listing and its started as a service simply stop and disable the service.

Eventually you can check it in Windows Registry.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ramdisk\Parameters

Yup it's there when I open the registry, but isn't in Services.

Is there anything I can edit in the registry to hide it?

First back up the registry key by clicking file=>export, then try deleting the key to see if that gets rid of it.

Just to make sure delete to Ramdisk\parameters as well as Ramdisk itself. Like XMS suggested make sure to backup your registry. Good luck.

Default Windows XP doesnt have Ramdisk in above registry so it should be safe to delete it unless any program you installed requires it. But to be honest ramdisk is quite good if you have a lot of memory. You can use it for temporary files as well as Photoshop scracth disk which is faster due to Ram access. You can increase the size to 3gb through parameters reg key.

Well I guess it doesn't matter anymore. I turned on my computer this morning and it was gone. Thanks for your help anyway.
