The 'keyboard and mouse input thing' is for overclockers and people that prefer to use the PS/2 interface over usb - they might just have a old keyboard they really like :P
Nothing against having it on a board.
The USB isnt really an issue for me - USB3 sucks anyway. Half the products arent backwards compatible - the corsair keyboards and mouses for example, and also my turtle beach headset. I have 6 USB3 ports, and 4 USB2 - none of my usb3 ports are used because none of my devices seem to be compatible with them - so dont worry about that.

I use a Noctua D14 with silverstone fans
 
are usb wifi adapters fairly plug and play? because like airdeano said - it would take longer to boot with a pci card so would a usb one come with crapware?

i don't want more things to plug into a wall. that's why i thought of the pci card first. those little dongle wifi cards look nice but when reading the comments i found that people said that the drivers are horrible - like you said. is the booting really slowed down that much with a simple pci one? :confused:
 
No - when I said drivers were terrible - I mean drivers are terrible for all wifi cards on desktops, regardless whether it's usb or pci.
No booting wont be slowed a great deal to answer your question - but your internet connection wont be as good as if you were on powerline or ethernet

i live in south africa and the internet here is terrible anyway. my download speed is on average 30kbs... would it even slow those speeds down?
 
It doesnt slow the speed, it just makes it unstable.

When I used wifi I was constantly getting kicked from games on BF3 just because it wasnt stable enough
 
The gigabyte Z77 boards arent as good as the MSI offerings.
And my mate bought that board and it was DOA.

Up to you though - I'm sure t will work fine for your needs

i don't know much about how fans/lights are hooked up in a computer but i'm assuming that it's connected onto the motherboard. is there a certain number of "ports" for the lights/fans in the motherboard or do some of them have more or less, and if so, is this the best board for having more? i want to have a light show in my haf x :)
 
Connect fans straight to the PSU by using molex connectors. You'll also need some Y-Splitters and some 5v/7v resistors, unless you like your ears to bleed :)
This stops you from having to plug the fans into the motherboard, which can look unsightly.
 
is there any sort of guide that i can follow for that? i'm getting a non-modular psu if that makes any difference. i've never seen any of this stuff in real life - this is my first build. i'm just using a laptop right now

edit: bonus info: in the future i want to get one of those snazzy fan controllers so i also want to know if i can hook the lights up to that to turn them on/off?

You're going for an AX850, right? There are modular cables that you plug in to the modular unit which have 4 molex plugs. You then plug a fan adapter into the molex - http://specialtech.co.uk/spshop/cus...r-5V-20cm--Sleeved-OrangeBlack-pid-12976.html
The above link is the more efficient way of doing things. My way uses more wires, as I have a molex->3pin adapter, then a Y-Splitter, then my resistors. By using something like the BitFenix Molex adapter you shall save yourself some hassle.
As far as I know there are fan controllers which can deliver what you want, but I wouldn't know what they are :)
 
oh okay so if i want more fans, can i get splitters that convert 1 fan adapter to two fan adapters? is that what you mean by y-splitter? i'm getting a corsair gs800 psu

edit: resistors just make the fan slower? or do they allow you to control the speed?

Resistors make the fan slower. Find a speed you like, i.e. nice an quiet, and leave well be.
And yeah, it enables you to power two fans.
 
I agree with Josh entirely over the resistors...

Getting rid of my fan controller was one of the best decisions regarding my PC that I made :)
