Quick question on Compatibility

Hey all,

I am using an OEM Motherboard from Acer Aspire M3970,
with a LGA 1155 socket i5-2320 CPU.
Case is Corsair 200R.

I noticed that the cooler seems different from the Intel cooler, here's a screenshot:

And the back of the motherboard:

All I want to do is to install a Hyper 212X onto the CPU, but I'm worried if this CPU fan and that black plate at the back is non-removable or fits to a different "socket" than the Hyper 212X. I apologise if I sound stupid, but I just don't want to end up with a new CPU cooler I can't install. (I have already checked that there is enough physical room for the heatsink + cooler)

As long as the motherboard has 1155 std mounting holes you will be fine - we cant really tell from the details you have given us dude sadly

Really the only way you can find out is by trying. Or comparing another 1155 bracket to the one installed if you have a spare.

Oww, I see. Is there any sort of conclusive detail that I can provide? If not, then I'll just have to hope for the best :D

If its 1155 chances are it has 1155 mounting holes so as Tom says, you will be fine. I mean you are most likely using the stock cooler from your CPU anyway which further backs up the standardised mounting holes.

Acer usually use the standard heatsink but a modified fan and shroud with it, the back plate may look bit different also, but it will still be the same size as the generic 1155 mounting things.

try if it doesnt fit return it or grab a drill and make some holes that will fit it

lol if only it was that simple!!

DON'T DO THIS

The CPU has connections coming out all over place, the tracks are covered up with the same colour as the motherboard and you have to make sure you are not breaking any of those, in your case 1155 of them coming to and from the CPU let alone any other things that are place about the CPU socket.

Reassuring. Thanks :)

Lol I wish I could do that :p

Well then, I will probably be grabbing the 212X next week, and will update on this. Thank you all for your input :D
