Quick News

Frontier really need to step it up with Elite Dangerous, This Free Fly for SC is, In my opinion, A good sign SC is getting closer to a beta and it won't be long after that until it gets it's full release.

People have been asking for atmospheric landings and space legs for ED since the Alpha, If SC can deliver that properly Frontier are in trouble.

It's only available for a week as a free fly so you should give it a go, also they are holding an expo live in the game at Lorville on the planet Hurston so check it out!

I don't think Fallout76's price drop indicates anything about sales what so ever, pretty much every Bethesda game regardless of franchise has a similar price drop around this time after launch. Not that I consider going from ~£50 to ~£30 a price drop, if you're buying games at £40+ you must know you're paying way above the odds and can probably get it cheaper by looking around abit within a week or two after most PC launches in general. Personally I've never paid more than £40 for a single game, even then it has to be something quite special as to be paying that much for digital nowadays means it essentially has to be a pre-order.

I actually think its the new marketing model. Nvidia style.. mark it up way over valued price. Let the early adopters, and pre-order fanatics come in to get you your 100%+ profit margins. Then when it starts to settle, drop value to its actual cost and let the rest scramble for what they think is a good deal.

They did the same for Tombraider and quite a few others. It's smart and it fools us. I also think comparing physical sales is old news. There are more and more people dropping their dvd drives these days, and we are moving to digital content. I am even seeing physical copies of Xb games cheaper than digital now from a retail pov.

Next Intel mainstream chips to have up to 10 cores up from the current 8 and still on 14nm++++++++, Going by the current price of the 9900K I can see these chips being in the region of £800 with temperatures to match.

Price and Temp's are as you say going to be sky high.

Thank god for AMD getting back in to the high end, as Intel can go forth in slow jerking movements :D

It reminds me of that browser joke some one posted the other day where IE responds about ten minutes after Firefox and Chrome etc.

Let Intel twiddle their thumbs. There was a time before the multicore technology when AMD were ahead. That time is soon to come once more.

Yup I agree. In fact, AMD are already ahead in the amount of cores they provide (that also beat Intel's lower threaded CPUs at that price level) and performance on price.

The longer it takes Intel to shrink the bigger that lead will become too.

That's how it works but it's far from a new system, just the modern age of internet purchases, pre-orders & social media fueled FOMO makes it more lucrative than ever.

Every AAA game I've seen over the last half decade or so has used this model, they launch at £50 or so then a week or two later is on a 33% sale at its more realistic price of ~£34 (What I still expect games to launch at). EA games generally do it without fail, I've bought pretty much every BF game within 3 weeks of launch at £30 or less via Origin in their winter sales despite the games launching at £50+.

Companies have realised some people will pay a lot for early access. Heck, some people earn a lot from getting early access (YouTubers and the like). This model essentially taxes those people who will benefit most from getting the game early(Whether those gains are in the form of enjoyment, early leveling & map learning, or other things) as generally the only people who pay that full price are pre-orderers and most games now offer early access to them for the privilege.

Tonight I got an email from the humble store, saying that due to a bug, someone tried various email addresses to see if they have an active Humble Monthly subscription etc and mine was supposedly used. Sensitive information like passwords have not been stolen, as they claim. They also told me to activate two factor authentication, something i didn't even know Humble had available.

Here's the complete text:
Hello,

Last week, we discovered someone using a bug in our code to access limited non-personal information about Humble Bundle accounts. The bug did not expose email addresses, but the person exploited it by testing a list of email addresses to see if they matched a Humble Bundle account. Your email address was one of the matches.

Sensitive information such as your name, billing address, password, and payment information was NOT exposed. The only information they could have accesses is you Humble Monthly subscription status. More specifically, they might know if your subscription is active, inactive, or paused; when your plan expires; and if you've received any referral bonuses.

Even though the information revealed is very limited, we take customer trust very seriously and wanted to promptly disclose this to you. We want to make sure you are able to protect yourself should someone use the information gathered to pose as Humble Bundle.

As a reminder, here are some tips to keep your account private and safe:

  • Don't share your password, personal details, or payment information with anyone. We will NEVER ask for information like that.
  • Be careful of emails with links to unfamiliar sites. If you receive a suspicious email related to Humble Bundle, please contact us via our support website so that we can investigate further and warn others.
  • Enable 2-Step Verification (2SV) so that even if someone gets your password, they won't be able to access your account. You can enable 2SV by following these instructions [Link to settings].
We sincerely apologize for this mistake. We will work even harder to ensure your privacy and safety in the futures.

Jeffrey Rosen, CEO, Humble Bundle

Presumably for them to do it this way round they're going to keep the Titan's driver stack a little more prosumer focussed than gamer. Can't see anyone picking this up for the ~5% increase in core count or <10% in memory/+bandwidth unless they've thrown in some other goodies from the Quadro stack (That or it's an unashamed halo card that they'll produce in tiny numbers mostly for reviewers).
