Quick News

Yes but sadly I cant change all the vacuum points in the registry to abcdef since I do not have any rights to do so on my work pc. I agree though, it does sound plausible. I dont use spotify on home pc so nothing to test there. Perhaps someone else can test it and report back.

Nah I'm not suggesting that is the fix. I'd block it till a fixed version is released. I wouldn't advise doing that reg change anyway.

i *think* it doesnt affect me since i have the version 0.9.15.27 :P i've prevented it updating to the latest because i think the UI is terrible.

EDIT: this is my read/write data of spotify idling for around 45 mins with my current version so im not affected by this fortunately.

If you run Samsung magician it does keep track.
I never bothered installing it as I found it pretty useless in the past

Its installed on my 250gb boot drive. Yeah it'd be a bit high but this is easily evidence that something was wrong

Creative Assembly and Sega, have now partnered with the Wargaming's new publishing label, Wargaming Alliance to publish the F2P title Total War Arena.
About the new WG Alliance:
Wargaming Alliance is dedicated to providing third-party publishers and developers the tools, resources and platform to enter the highly competitive free-to-play gaming market along with access to Wargaming’s substantial subscriber base of over 100 million gamers.

I see this as either a great and strong partnership or a partnership that will ruin the Arena title(compared to the closed alpha I played). On the positive side, WG can add more resources like strong network backends and proven working concepts into the game as well as supporting/promoting it with a massive player base.
On the other hand, since they are removing it from Steam and moving to a client based app, if they have it region locked, this will be a huge bane for TW. TW is an RTS/TBS game and therefore is less popular than MMOs/FPS/etc so the player base is small currently. Region lock would only hurt them further, until a strong/consistent player base can be had, region lock shouldn't be an option.

Daily reminder that Android is great until you realize that its incredibly easy to do malicious stuff with.

Security researchers have uncovered a secret backdoor in Android phones that sends almost all personally identifiable information to servers based in China.

The firmware is managed by Shanghai Adups Technology, and according to the company, is contained on over 700 million phones worldwide, including phones available in the United States.

Adups says that the firmware provides companies with data for customer support, but an analysis by Kryptowire revealed that the software sends the full bodies of text messages, contact lists, call history with full telephone numbers, and unique device identifiers including the International Mobile Subscriber Identity and the International Mobile Station Equipment Identity.

Luckily my current Chinaphone is one of the few phones that isn't affected by it :^)

Every time I've seen this story, the number of affected phones vastly differs, like, from 10,000 to 100,000,000 and now 700,000,000..

Do wonder what the actual number of affected devices is.

Probably impossible to get a truly accurate figure as it'll be on alot of those incredibly cheap landfill android tablet/phones. I don't think those manufacturers would cooperate with any investigation.

Some semi-decent Chinaphone manufactorers are guilty sadly :/.

28TB of written data?

yep and still going strong (ish)! No thanks to spotify..

EA have apparently downgraded the visuals on the PC version of Battlefield 1 to fall more in line with the consoles, Glad I didn't buy this.

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/55022/battlefield-1-visual-downgrade-pc-latest-patch/index.html

List of things changed -

  • Clearly lacks tessellation on muddy terrain path - see bottom left highlighted area
  • Lacks previous (pre-patch) anisotropic filtering/textures - see far right highlight on rock formation textures
  • Terrain quality/decoration lowered, notice missing foliage and plants - see top left highlight above the muddy path
  • HBAO/shadow resolution or shadow-draw distance lowered, notice cluster of plants - see middle highlight above weapon

The picture with the sharper shadow is prior to the patch.

I've not bought it either. £50 is just too much for a PC game that I could end up not playing because of bugs or performance issues.

If it were £30 I would take that chance, but at £44 on a key site this is just too rich for me man.

I've been playing Borderlands for my past 20 hours or so of gaming. One of the DLC in the first game is so huge it's crazy. Thought we'd be done by now but it seems we have an awful long way to go (and a bugger called Crawmerax to splat).

The good thing is it's not aged much. Cell shading always looks the same, so even though the game is eons old now it still looks every bit as good as it did when it launched :)

I'm sure i heard somewhere or someone that like the Deluxe set cost something like $150AUD i mean come on EA/Dice are doing a pi** take.

There doesn't appear to be much coverage on this.
This is important for anyone that has or had an old skype account and has since merged it with their MS account. Basically, the old Skype aliases have been easily hacked and you need to unlink your legacy account. See info in the article below on how to do it. You can also check to see whether you have been logged into elsewhere in the world.
