Questions about the h100i

Hello guys,

I have played with a few different H100's and all of the ones I've had all had a noisy pump that made sort of a ticking noise.

I would like to maybe get something that is lower profile that will free up some space around the CPU and add some visibility to the motherboard area etc.

But the question I have is to anyone who has an H100i or has seem them running: is there ANY noticeable pump noise from the H100i at all ? and if so is it a very small amount something you can hear when sitting next to the case or something you won't hear once the door of the case is shut.

the first run and some review samples had an issue, but not pump related.

seems that when undervolting the fans through the link software made the fan
controller click or grind. but looks like they've solved that situation with a
software update.

the three ive already installed were quiet (pump-wise) and like the H100 prior
was able to control the heat very well. the software is not difficult for daily users,
but could be a little strange to some. and all the configurations that can be
illustrated is flat crazy.

The H100i's seems to be having a lot of issues from what Im seeing on forums. Im sure Corsair will get them resolved eventually but I dont think I would buy one now. The H100's also had issues in earlier batches but the latest batches were very quiet. I bought mine at Best Buy and checked the lot number and made sure it was a late model and its plenty quiet.

@MacLeod

I haven't been massively impressed with Corsair recently, to be honest. When I was looking at H100's it was in march 2012 and the pump was way louder than anything I would find acceptable to use myself. I don't like the look of anything released recently from them. The H100i looks a bit appealing just because it's lower profile than an air cooler, but I just wish they could sort out the quality issues earlier. I'd like to see an AIO water cooler that is a bit more expensive and made with higher quality components. I guess a small custom water cooling loop is essentially that, but I dont want to deal with that.

@airdeano

I have a bunch of Noctua fans here so I wouldn't use the stock fans anyway, but I think I'm going to stay away from it for now though.

outta 16 H100 installs i hadn't had the "knock/grind" noise everyone complains of.
only had three RMA over burned out fan controllers.
i just sold another H100 from feb 2012 and bought another two.

you missed the point on fans.. when undervolting them, the on-board controller
was the issue making the clunk/thump noises. whether the OE fans or
aftermarket..

your choice.. ill have one in two week to try and fry...

thank you for the information :)

i'm probably going to pass for now and hope something better comes along or else do a very simple water loop myself later. i'm fairly underwhelmed by the h100i, especially after using a NH-D14 for a year+ now. the NZXT kraken X60 looks looks interesting just because of the extra radiator real estate, but i highly doubt it will be much different than what corsair has to offer.

dont hold the breath on something better.. other than eisberg thats about it
for mass-AIO sales. and kraken x60 is going to be a disappointment as well,
due to the H100 fits more cases than the 2x 140. just because two 140 fans
fit, doesnt make the kraken eligable. the radiator has extra length and isn't
easily acceptable in a bolt-in app. like th H100 and their fault, the kraken will
have more due to the extra 45mm dimension over-run from just two fans.

they list my arc midi as compatible, but its not.. the tanks intefere with the
optibay substructure really bad. and if you remove that, then the low 50mm
hang will struggle past some heatsink combinations..

ive had the D14 for 1.5 yrs and it was great, but the H100 allows me to
hold longer overclocks, cooler and as quiet.. at least 8°-10° better on
4.9/5.2 for 8-16hr stretches.. D14 cant hold 5.0.

I know it is not an i but from my own experience with H100 I have had no pump noise at all even when it is set to be on full power. I did however have a ticking sound which I later diagnosed as being the fans. When undervolted via my case fan controller you could hear a ticking sound.

This seems to still be there even with the Sp120's I bought but the 120s are quieter, about 2 degrees cooler and the ticking sound is lower so less annoying.

Right boys, the H100i is much quieter than the H100 if you use the quiet profile or set up your own. You honestly wont be hearing the pump over the rest of your rig.

As for the Kraken even in silent mode this thing is LOUDER than the H100i. NZXT have dropped a bit of a bollock with it in this way.... Shit Fan.

I definitely am tempted by the H100i. It is looking better and better to me. I may go for it.

Unfortunately the chip I have isn't great and it can't get anywhere near 5ghz, so the high end clocks isn't really an issue right now, but I mainly am looking for something that is a lot smaller area the CPU socket area.

Unforgettably the chip I have isn't great and it can't get anywhere near 5ghz, so the high end clocks isn't really an issue right now, but I mainly am looking for something that is a lot smaller area the CPU socket area.

The H100 is tiny around the cpu. It actually looks tiny in my X79 board. You also do not need to be near 5ghz to get good performance from a H100. With the sp120 fans my cpu with the oc averages 64C with the highest core hitting 68/69C.

So even a good 4.4 or above overclock will still run nice and cool.

Well you wont have silent with 5GHZ no matter what chip dude........

i just meant i'm not worried as much about how it performs with higher clocks because the chip i have isn't very good and cannot do very high clocks anyway. i'm more looking for an AIO water cooler because of the smaller size around the CPU socket.

I'm glad for Toms input as I have been awaiting the review on the Kraken X60. I'm really looking forward to when I can swing the H100i.

I'm glad I waited a little bit before going with an h100i ;)

I have the H100 and don't hear the pump. Maybe once or twice but otherwise nothing..
If i don't have the cash for a water cooling kit i will probably be getting the H100i. To me my rig needs to look good and the H100i definately is the best looking cooler out there.

basically i was never really into the h100 or the 100i very much, but i was considering it since there was nothing really 'better' out as if even a couple weeks ago.

what i was always looking for was sort of a proper WC loop that is pre assembled, better than the h100i and a little bit more expensive than the h100i. the swiftech h220 is exactly what i had in mind, so the moment i saw it the h100i went right off the table as an option for me personally.

from what i understand it will be priced at $139 and i wouldn't hesitate for a second to get it over the h100i.

looks wise i think the swifttech unit looks better with the larger tubing and the larger pump, but that is just my personal thoughts on it.

+ the pump is 5 times stronger than the H100i's, and you can expand the loop to add one or two GPU blocks and a radiator! You can make a full watercooling loop without having to buy a pump and res which would essentially save you 80-100 quid :D

i know! it's such a great product, i'm very excited! it's exactly what i was looking for :)

Yup, same! This thing makes an H100i look useless for me. I was really (pleasantly) surprised when I heard the price too! :)
