Ok , I finally pulled the trigger and ordered an stx and headphones.
My question is , if I install it next to my graphics card will I have any interference or static from it?
One other question , Can I install it in the bottom pcie x16 slot above the power supply? Will I have any problems from the psu?
Any info on where would be the best place to install it is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply james,
I know that it is shielded, but I wasn't sure and wanted to ask someone before I install it. I just placed the order last night so I should get it by the 6th.
I'm looking forward to see the difference between it and the on board .
Thanks again for the input

I currently don't have a sound card , using on board sound.
I spent the big money and got a proper set of headphones ( Sennheiser hd650 ) .
This is the most I've ever spent on headphones , I hope I like them.
Do you think that I need a headphone amp for the pc ?

The STX has a built in headphone amp, so you *should* be alright with that as it goes up to 600Ohms (your headphones are only 300Ohm)

I'm sure you'll love them though. They'll sound great with the STX, and be a new world of experience compared to onboard.

Thanks again for the reply james,
I was hoping I would be alright and the sound card would be enough to power them.
Was reading some reviews on the phones that were saying they needed extra power to make them sound good , so it's good to know that I don't need one.

Well they may perform better with an additional amp - but that depends how loud you like listening to music.

Just try them out and see what you think.

You'll have to be on the highest amp setting for your headphones, so if you do decide you want more, then you can always add an amp at some point.

All headphones above about 50Ohms need extra power to make them sound good tbh. Well.....I wouldn't really say to make them sound good, but in order to achieve noise levels that you're happy with - so that point of view is a little subjective.

I think though, bearing in mind you've gone from on board to audiophile grade equipment, you'll be completely happy with what you've bought!

Thanks
Yeah , I'm not really into the ear blowing loud music like I was when I was younger, Just like clear and crisp sound. So I'll give it a try and see what I think.
For future reference , whats a good headphone amplifier? I looked at the Fiio line of amps ( E9 & E7 ) for a few minutes , but again wasn't sure if I needed one.

The Fiios are more for portable use with iPods or laptops that you can't put a soundcard in.

The E7 has a DAC and is intended completely for portable use really. You already have the DAC so you wouldn't really need that.
The E9 is a possibility - but having spent what you have on equipment so far, I'd have thought you'd prefer getting a better headphone amp.

I do think you'll be fine with the STX's headphone amp alone however, so just see how it goes.

After reading more on the two , paired up their both kind of made to replace or use instead of the sound card , not what I need. I'll just wait and see what I think of what I'll get.

thanks again for your input

Hi all,
Ok , I installed the card in the bottom x16 slot and for some reason it didn't recognize it , so I moved it up one slot to the last x1 slot and it's recognized now.
The only problem I'm having now is driver and software installation , what is the easiest program to use to open .RAR files ?

I didn't know of WinRAR, is it part of windows 7? I tried to use 7zip and for some reason it didn't work . I unzipped the file and clicked setup.exe and it said platform not accepted. So I downloaded a file called " RAR File Open Knife " ( freeware program ) and it worked like a charm. With it all setup the Xonar stx sounds night and day difference compared to on board sound on my Klipsch 2.1 speakers . My new Sennheiser 650's sound great too.

I left my system on all night and the card is just barely warm.
I still can't believe the difference between the stx and on board sound , well worth the money. I now see why everyone is recommending this card.
