Quado SLI

hi guys

Right, Just fitted 2x Nvidia Quadro 4000's in my twin Xeon workstation..
As i mainly use my computer for video rendering..
I have them in SLI of course.

But when rendering a video, MSI afterburner reports both cards as practically 0 useage..
Where as My Intel CPU desktop Widget shows all 8 cores at 100% load...

I use Cyberlink power Director Pro 11.. as i cant get on with Sony vegas..
In the program settings.. Edit > preference..
there is a tab of "hardware acceleration"..
which both boxes are ticked:

1. Enable open CL support to speed up render - TICK
2. Enable hardware Encoding - TICK..

But it never uses the quadro's to add to rendering performance..

i render at 4k - 3840x2160 @ 30fps...
Speeds are okay, but not amazingly fast.. hence why i bought two quadro's to help..

seams to be a waste of money, since they arent getting used...

cheers

No? lol

I thought i just install the graphics card, enable hardware acceleration, and thats it haha

There is a long setup process with quadros evolved. I can't go into detail because I never did it myself and I don't want to spread false information but the nvidia site or maybe the quadro support can help.

urgh,. why cant it just be simple!

install the cards, enable hardware acceleration in the software, and it automatically uses CPu and GPU for rendering!

I removed my SLI Quadro's and installed my trusty 550Ti again, just for testing..

Power Director doesnt even put any load on that when rendering, Although i manually selected it to...

any ideas of how to make it use the GPU too?

cheers

You did use the Quadro drivers right?

of course...

specs are:

HP workstation motherboard
2x Xeon E5450 Quad Cores (8 cores)
16gb ECC memory
2x Kingston 120gb SSD in RAID 0 (for OS)
2x WD 1tb Caviar HDD (for data and junk)

With either GTx 560Ti, or 2x Quadro 4000's in SLI...

No matter what i do, or try to download, i cannot get Power Director to utilize the GPU / GPU's too for extra performance...
Kinda makes the quadro's absolutely pointless!

My CPU's are quite old now, so not the best at handling 4K video renders...
need a little boost from my GPU's...

cheers

I'm assuming you're encoding in H.264? And you have selected the use of the gpu in production wizard?

Quick google and it says you need to add NVidia specific video effects and produce it as a file. Does that make any sense? I don't use PowerDirector but it says the In the effect room, some of the video effects will have graphics card logo on it which means if your computer supports hardware acceleration. Depending on the graphics card you have, you may see either of the listed logos on the effect clips:

There's more detail here: http://www.cyberlink.com/support/product-faq-content.do?id=12777&prodId=4

Might be worth a try for a small video. ALso I found a thread where they were saying that after a certain NVidia driver version it didn't work at all but that could be well out of date it was 2015 or something. Sorry I can't help more the Cyberlink support and FAQ sites are a bit rubbish..

Your version of Cyberlink is three generations old. Version 14 is able to use multi GPU setups, and it's very very fast at encoding H264.

@ Mr Kambo

Yes buddy i am...

@ Jimma47

yeah ive already seen all that mate.. makes no difference.. GPU useage is always still at basically 0..

@ davva 2004

yeah i know mate...
I just havent currently got the money to buy the newest one...
but regardless, the one i have, says it supports GPU rendering too, But it isnt...

i didnt want to go and buy the newest one, just to still have the issue..

cheers

Okay, right, trying Sony vegas 13..

it suports GPU rendering too..

Doing a test..
One 5min long video.. rendering at 4K 30fps...

CPU Only - 9mins 36
CPU and GPU - 9.59

?????????

cheers
