PS/2 keyboard/mouse combo port

Some motherboards have got a PS/2 keyboard/mouse combo port.

Can you use one of these:-

So that you can use a PS/2 keyboard & PS/2 mouse at the same time? Or are you limited to either or on these ports?

Wanted to use an Asus P8H67-V with a KVM, but can't find any info.

AFAIK that would definitely work. I don't see why the motherboard wouldn't accept it? Why are you being naughty and still using a PS/2 mouse anyway XD?

I'm contemplating using this as a server motherboard. I have an 8 port KVM & a rack console that I'd want to attach to it.

That makes sense then. I'm sure it'd work, I don't see why not. Essentially it's like a backwards conversion of the most recent PS/2 combined ports, right?

I've read some stuff that says they work and some says it doesn't. It depends on how its wired, but I can't find any details...

it should work, if i remember right back in the day when i was learning hardware. keyboards and mice use a different signal and i think now the chips that control the xy functions and the keyboard can read between the 2 while both connected, thats why its a combo port. the only thing i would worry about is the power, i know ps2 ports dont use that much but from experiance when accidently removing a keyboard for a ps2 i blew the chip and had to go usb. so i be wary of that.

best thing to do (im going on memory in work i fail) is to look how the combo ports work google it.

I've tried google but couldn't find any specific wiring diagrams for that board. Some people say they work and others not, it all depends on the specific manufacturer and what they have implemented. Might just go with a server board instead, the connections on the back are always simpler and are designed with KVM's in mind.
