Proposed new upgrade for the New Year

Hi Guys

I'm looking to build a new rig, and I would like some help in choosing the proccy. This is going to be doing multimedia, gaming and F@H. Here are some of the proccy's I've been looking at. Feedback greatly appreciated

If you're going to go dual core Opty DC > Athlon DC so I recommend the 165 that you listed.

But I think your best price/performance/clockability ratio will best be found with the Opty 146... If you're lucky you'll score one that clocks like Jimbo's (and that's a fairly common OC on the Opty single cores!).

Actually get a 3800+ X2 . On decent air cooling they are hitting 2.6 ~ 2.7 ghz on both cores which is fast enough for all your needs. And for the price u cannot go wrong .

i agree with bourne the X2 3800+ will be your best bet with a reliable overclock

Thanks mate I'll take you up on that offer early in the New Year if that's ok, as I've gotta purchase RAM, mobo, GC and HDD's before Xmas. Have you any links on how the dual core opty's are performing oc wise, because that's what I was looking at? Thanks for all feedback so far

sry was away for the weekend at my Gf's . It was her birthday so it was party time throughout the weekend. Dual core opty are good but they are not showing much difference from dual core X2 procs. I would definitely go with dual core 3800+ as it seems the best value for money atm. you can easily oc them to around 2.6~2.7 ghz and with the latest video card drivers being able to use the dual cores ur all set. wht mobo are u planning on using ???? And what ram ?

Yep, I just had a chat with |3ourne via msn and he's gonna look for a nice new stepping 3800+ for me as the opty's are being phased out. As far as RAM goes, I was looking at the Mushkin Redline ( Eguy), but |3ourne put me onto these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231020 or some nice Crucial Ballistix , and yes I have now ordered the SLI-DR Expert.
