Project: Qube³

Those purple grills look better , match the build more imo.

...then again I would say that as I am looking to buy some white grills!

Sorry matey, I decided to go with the white after all:D

I still haven't had time to get much done with the build. I replaced the HD & power LED's as the white LED's that came with the case looked crap and were much too bright. I have also ordered some LED's to replace the ones fitted on the SunBeam Rheostat fan controller. The original ones are way too bright for my liking and they need to go. I am expecting delivery of those today, so I should be able to get some pics up of the new LED's when I have fitted them.

I have also decided to go with the white fan grilles, instead of the purple ones. I have been dithering over which to go with for a few weeks now, but I have finally made my mind up. I also got the first of my radiators, a PA120.3 and have test fitted it. I will edit this post later with all the latest in pics.

EDIT: I dropped a ******* with the new LED's for the fan controller. They are just as bright as the old ones, and apart from the originals being clear lensed and the new ones being diffuse, there is no difference. :banghead: I'm just gonna stick with them as they are now with the new ones.

The new blue power and HD LED's, which replaced the old clear white ones.

The new LED's fitted in the SunBeam Rheostat fan controller. Up to 7v the LED's shine red, over 7v and they shine blue.

New look with the new LED's and white fan grilles.

This is the first rad to be used in the build, a Thermochill PA120.3, with 3x 120 Nexus Real Silent fans daisy chained.

Jobs left to do:

Sort wc loops out, still need to buy pumps, 1x PA120.2 and fans, res's & wb's for CPU & GPU

Sort cable management out

Sort out the DVD drive bezel

Sort lighting out

Thinking of fitting a 20x4 LCD screen, as I will have a spare bay on the 5.25" rack

Quick Update:

Managed to get my hands on a cheap EK Supreme CPU wb, and will be using it for this build now instead of the Aqua Computer block:)

I got the first of my pumps the other day, but it was a DDC Pro 10w, so I modded it to an 18w:

I have also been trying to get my head around the loops and planning it out. I was originally going to be using a dual 5.25" bay reservoir on one loop, and an EK res on the the other. But I thought this may not look right. So I am now going to be using 2x XSPC pump tops/res's on both pumps, which will look better I think than having two different res's in the rig. This leaves me with a problem though. I have 5x 5.25" bays to fill. I am only using 1x DVD and 1x fan controller, so that leaves 3 to fill.

I found a mod that will fill these slots up nicely and it will add a bit of the wow factor to the build too. The mod involves taking a Playstation 1 LCD 5" screen and modding it for use with a PC. Apparently the screen's PCB is the right width, and just over 3 bays high, which is perfect. I will be making a bezel for the screen, either in white acrylic or aluminium and spraying it white. Should looks smart as when it's done:)

EDIT: Just bagged myself a PS1 screen for £30. Not bad for a 5" TFT!! Looking forward to this part of the build.

If you need any more ps1 screen i have about 8 here all stripped. I can get more as well, Just in case any ones after them. I only pay £5 to £8 each for them. As long as ppl are just in the uk i dont mind sending them for no profit.

Nice little 1 mod on the pump can that be done to all lower end version saving a few quid.

Thanks mate.

Regards the screens, do they have the PCB with them or is it just the screens? I would deffo be interested in one or two more screens, I could use one in my HTPC and one in my Daughter's rig.

Ill jump in the loft tomorrow and pull what i have and let you know. There wont be any charge though because i didn't pay for the ones i have.

Hi,sorry to jump on but I would be interested in 2 ps1 screens for a little project I hope to start soon. Cheers

let me sort out what i have first no point jumping on the band wagon just yet till i know what i have. These have been in the loft a while and no point sending out buggered stuff.

LCD Screen - Done & Dusted, well nearly!

First off, thanks Mayhem for the screen you posted. I will be modding my Daughter's rig with that one so thanks from us both:worship:

For this build I used another PSOne screen that I bought, and it's turned out pretty well. I still have to finish the internal wiring and put some sealant around the screen. I have managed to get the screen running, and I will be creating a config file for Samurize. The LCD will have system info on it (updated real time) with some nice graphs etc.

Here's what's been done so far:

lcdstart.jpg

I stripped the screen down and removed it from the plastic casing.

As the screen is PAL, a little mod had to be done so that the backlight would function

lcdpers.jpg

I had some spare 5mm white acrylic that I used for the bezel. It takes up 3x 5.25" bays. The bezel is fixed to the drive cage by some cut off bezel sides that I screwed on to the rear of this bezel.

Here the screen is after being secured to the bezel and plugged in. Works a treat and looks the mutts nutts:) As I said, I will be filling the gap around the screen with some white sealant.

Excuse the paw prints:D The build is starting to take shape now, and I am looking forward to finishing the little jobs left on the screen and starting the watercooling.

That screen is an absolute beauty... good job man

Are you gonna cover up the bay above the fan controller though, would look better methinks?

Thanks, it's a DVD drive you see above the fan controller, I painted the bezel white but my Daughter put one of her magazines on it when the paint was still wet. I have to sand the bezel down and respray it. The build still has a fair bit of work left, and the pics are a work in progress.
