Hi all, I am currently planning a new build so thought I would post it here, aswell as a few other forums

The build will be a mix of old and new parts based around a black/orange colour scheme.

Anyway on with a list of parts to start things off.

Hardware

  • Motherboard - EVGA X58SLI LE
  • CPU - i7 920 D0
  • RAM - 6GB Patriot Viper II 2000Mhz DDR3
  • EVGA 580GTX
  • 260 GTX for Physix
  • 2x Intel X25-V SSD's in Raid0 running Win7 Pro
  • PSU - Unsure yet, thinking about a Be Quiet

Cooling

  • HeatKiller full copper CPU block cooled by a PA120.4
  • HE120.1 for the 260GTX
  • 3/8" compression fittings

Case

  • Black/Orange is all I will say for now

The case is sadly delayed a short while due to paying for the family holiday but will be ordered ASAP

Pics to follow as stuff arrives.

Input more than welcome and cheers for reading

Matey change those 2 560s for a 580 lightning I Gateshead that will be the best decision for this build. Then sli that later on also look at a i7 950 which is also a very good chip

for psus also look at corsair. Im not sure the 260 will bottleneck a 580 lightning.. You won't need a physx card If you sli later on. For ram look at the Mushkin redline ridgeback or if you can't get them look at the corsair dominator gt's that's my 2 cents worth budd

Cheers for the input man.

My 920 does 4.5Ghz HT off so I see no reason to change that, the 560Ti's I have only had a few weeks so would be very reluctant to change those.

Again with the RAM, although Dom GT's are better I can't see any benefit tbh.

The PSU choice actually between a Corsair or BeQuiet.

Ohh must of skipped some lines, didn't realize you already built the rig, for the psu look at the corsair 850ax I own one myself with 2 580s and everything overclocked highly recommend it

Hehe the rig ain't built yet

Its a new build but using some of my current hardware like the CPU and RAM. The gfx cards were bought in the planning stage of this build so I thought I may aswell keep them

Id bin off the GPU on a single rad if I was you. A 240mm rad would probs be overkill for the CPU let alone a 480.

Remember you temps will be no cooler just because you have a massive rad.

Well I did have grand plans to watercool the 2 Twin Frozr's but sadly it looks like there will be no full cover blocks for them due to the fact they are non-reference.

If there had been blocks available then the cards would have been on the 120.4 and the CPU would have stayed on my current 120.3 with the 260GTX(Physix) on the HE120.1.

It was mentioned earlier in this topic to get rid of the 560Ti's and replace thrm with a single 580 Lightning, now I have heard rumours of a full cover block for the Lightning, if this is the case that may be enough to persuade me to do the swap

If you are overclocking just get a ref card mate tbh. Theres not enough extra in a lightning under water to be worth buying one over a ref card tbh.

Just get a ref design with the option of voltage options like Asus do.

Hmmm, not a fan of Asus cards tbh Tom.

It would have to be EVGA which I presume are ref cards?

Couple of items arrived.

More as I get stuff together.

Also I am going to keep my current mobo - EVGA X58SLI LE and buy a full cover block for it.
