Project my PS3 is in the oven!

Just to say that if you get a RROD for a 360 and Microsoft are being weird do NOT bake it before you have done the clamp upgrade. M5 bolts and 32 washers (£4.28 for me) has fixed both my 360s and they now make less noise too.

Nice job Tom :)

Well Ive fixed into the 30s over the years and my 2 were the first well over 2 years ago. I'm unsure of the ability of others fixes (including your one Daza) but mine has stood the test of time without problems. It also seems that people do it through a far more complicated method than I did too.

My ps3 has got the YLOD now, will be getting the heat gun out tomorrow :(

Bake it matey, it gets the solder nice and hot and makes a much better seal after. 220c in a pre baked over for 10mins, just dont move it till its cooled down ;)

Fixed it with a heat gun. Was naughty and traded it in straight away xD. £130 trade in. only £130 for a 120gb ps3 slim ;)

did you wrap it with tinfoil or just put it in a pan then put it in the oven?

I've just had the yellow light of death

. I'm waiting to get my hands on a heat gun, I do't trust putting it in the oven for some reason...

The oven tends to be a better bet, especially with tin foil around everything but the chip, as a heat gun tends to be a lot hotter than 220C, so risks the silicon. I fixed my 360 with an oven.

Aye oven is much better. 220c for 10mins.

Just open the door when its done and dont move it from the oven for 20mins (allow the solder to set)

Oh and make sure you use oven gloves even after that. Make sure any plastic buttons are well insulated, as my 360 now needs the front panel off to connect a controller...woops

My mate's PS3 got the yellow light of death earlier, at around 7. It was all fixed and sorted by 12 using this method. Especially considering he lives about 40 mins away, we had to wait for the oven to heat up, and eat lots of pizza in between too. So thanks Tom for showing us what we can do to fix this problem!
