Quick one, bought a YLOD broken PS3. Stripped it.

Now its in the oven Im cooking it!

/leaves room looking for tablets :/

well all looks good, shes back together already and its all working, just need a controller now for some testing :D

Hope you had some fish fingers in at the same time. Guy can't work on an empty stomach!

If you don't mind my asking, around how much did you get a YLOD PS3 for?

I got it for £40 in the end, obviously its just powering on and giving me a screen atm, I need to get a game and format the hdd to see if it will work, and then hope that it works for ages if not for good!

If it does just work now for £40 it was a bargin!

I had a little read about these YLOD problems on PS3.

Sony were saying they didn't like the term as it wasn't just caused by one problem and was just more of a fault light for anything.

That said, a company bought 20 PS3's with that problem and heated the boards in a "special oven", so basically took them to their kitchen.

The reckoned that something like 18 of them came back to life and 6 months on around 12 were still going strong.

Keeps us up to date to mate... Really interested in firstly if it works with a game and format and also if it lasts.

Im intrested in this as well. Perfectly happy with my 360, but a £40 blu ray player would be nice :p With GT5 whenever it finally arrives as well!

thats some nice work there tom, mad about all the oven stuff ive been seeing u, on the ps3 and mayhem doing on all the old arcade boards he got

I basically got the PS3, power lead and audio video cable for £40. So Im on the hunt for a 2nd hand controller somewhere local.

It didnt work with the audio video lead, so I think it was having problems before, but the HDMI out works fine so Im not bothered.

Hoping to get it tested and have a play this weekend, I think I might call it PSfree as its cost me next to nowt!

If it works continually Im laughing, but it was just nice to see it power up after being in the oven! If it has just got hot Ill be sure to make sure it can breathe well.

If it goes again it might end up being watered.

yeah i was just thinkin that! toms watered ps3 how bad ass would that beget it lookin all sexy like that lian li 360 case

Easier method is heatgun, reapply the thermal paste :P. This is only a quick fix, it will YLOD again :(

When Sony reflow them they do batches in a big oven, heatgun way was a bit too easy and I wanted a laugh :D

Aye when they overheat the solder melts and moves, so you loose a connection. By heating it up again the idea is to reflow the solder back in to the joint to make a connection again.

I had to replace the laser on mine. Bit of a fiddly job, but worked in the end. The laser has a 3 month warranty on it, so PS3 is being hammered at the mo and seems to be going well!

aye 220c for 10mins.

Stage 2 is a success, I bought an comtroller and got it all set up, wifi went straight in, its been looping braveheart all day so I think its ready to test it with a game :D

Total spend so far including controller - £65 :D
