Project: General Li

F40 is now officially sold and I've received part payment for it. Items purchased for new rig so far are:

Lian Li PC-G70

2x Hitach Deskstar 320gb 16mb

The buyer of F40 will be down on Saturday to collect, but has had to book a hotel to stay at overnight as the journey is 4hrs in each direction :o

Check out these powdercoat colours guys. Based on the image on Page #1 what do you think is the closest match?

I'm thinking RAL 2003 or 2010

Mate, neither of those colours is anywhere near close. Ones way too yellow, ones way too pink.

They are both washed out.

That car is a strong dark orange. Is there a mixing option? Or get it done elsewhere...

As far as I am aware, those are the ONLY colours available for powdercoat. Anodising is out of the question too as the colours are never matchable, so that would leave spray painting...which is nowhere near as robust.

EDIT: How about 2004 on here

That is much better. Looking closer at the pic in the OP that orange is both bright and dark! lol. Not sure if it is due to the natural light...

That is a close match though.

Just wanted to put my two cents in, even two paints that look the same under one light will look different in another. I would get a sample of the color and take it to where the computer will be just to make sure. This is obviously over the top but if it has to be perfect...

According to a reputable fan site. The actual colour is Corvette Flame Red, Hemi Orange or Big Bad Orange depending on the manufacturer. You may have to try across the pond. The site also says that that particular colour is liable of showing very different shades depending on the light.

I'm still on the hunt for an orange sleeving kit and some low profile passive coolers for the Blitz southbridge and crosslinx chips. If anyone has any ideas, let me know :)

You want these mate - I think you can make them work -CNB-S1L can also be used for some Southbridge or VGA applications.

Cheers dude. Bet they are rocking horse sh1t in the UK tho :(

Yes but Sidewinder do them, and if I am not mistaken you are ordering 2 rather mosterous fans from there - just add those to the order?

Vinyl or Airbrushed?

I'm in 2 minds about how to get the flag on top of the case. Choices are: Vinyl or Airbrushed.

- If I go the airbrushed route this will mean that the top of the case would need to be lacquered. If the top of the case is laquered then the sides will need to be done too otherwise they will look a different colour. If the whole case is lacquered then the project will lose its 'ruggedness' and i'm guessing that the lacquer will chip fairly easy.

- If I go the vinyl route, then the case will keep its ruggedness along with the toughness of the powder coat, but might look a bit tacky? If the original General Lee used vinyl graphics then it might be ideal, but i'm not sure :(
