Project: General Li

Go with the Airbrush, won't look as tacky. Is there any other means of protecting airbrusing than a clear coat/lacquered?

Not that i'm aware of, unless there's some kind of spray-on plastic coating/

Havent you got a couple of cans of that plastic coating used for insulating mobos? Y'know, when you had the pelt.

Also, clear coat is widely available and will protect airbrush/decals to an extent.

Powder coat has a gloss finish... Least my bike did when I had it done...

Yeah, the problem is that the cans are not designed for fine/even spraying, so i'll more than likely end up with drips, dribbles and a orange peel finish

Ye the problem is any kind of coating is going to change the colour of the top panel (make it look more glossy etc). If that means I have to clear coat the side panels, then I'm likely to get chipping when doing things like removing the case doors or installing new dvd drives etc.

Maybe there is a clear power coat? Have your graphics done then send it in for a clear powder coat. Theoretically it would have the same finish as the case and be incredibly resiliant to chips.

I had my bike powdercoated when I was younger and it never chiped.

What's happening here? You need me to spot you some paper to get you going?

Heheh no its all good mate. I've hit a mass hurdle tho in that I'm not using a Lian Li case anymore :( Basically because the G70 is about as rigid as a tin can!

So, I'm going to use a U2-UFO instead :D - Not sure what to do about the General Li name tho :(

Oh yeah, Pascal have anything to do with that???

The name, hmmm. Kempster seems to have a gift with project names...

Well... build one in mind for lan use or something...

U could then call it Traveller (General Lee`s horse) ;) White/grey I think tho.

(Also was the name of the car the General Lee was based on)

U2-UFO, wheels, car(ish) theme?

"The Truck"

"Optimus"

"The Rig"

Well its still gonna be based on the general lee car, so it really needs to be something to do with Dukes of Hazzard / General Lee

Dukes of Hazzmod?

Wow Jim! :)

I must have totally missed this thread! Sorry matey!

I really like the idea and the hardware is of very good spec! :D

I wish you the most of luck and I will be looking forward to any updates from now on! ;)

Sorry, only just got around to reading this thread, been a bit busy.

Totally agree about the case. The G70 is my first Lian Li and probably my last.

The build quality is pants, even compared with my old Coolermaster or Tsunami Dream cases. Sharp edges, poorly fitting sides, and as you say tin-like.

Name-wise I guess you're trying to stick to the D.O.H. theme? I can't think of anything else that orange.

What about a Thunderbirds or Transformers themed case. You've just got to get some hydraulics in there somewhere :D

Jimbo - what gives? This and B.I on hold?

I wish it was...then I might not feel so annoyed about how long some companies are taking to get things done on this project.

I've been waiting about 3 weeks for my side panels to be laser cut (not by one of our RR's i might add).

I HOPE that things will really start moving this week. The case is being powdercoated inside as we speak, a new compressor is arriving for the phase change unit in the next few days, and with any luck i should have a case back to me mid/end next week.

Then I've got the fun of installing everything :p
