Project: General Li

The General Li is a tribute to the Dodge Charger used in "The Dukes of Hazzard" (named: General Lee). For this project I will be using some sweet orange paintwork on a Lian Li case along with airbrushed graphics. Other features are "hush-hush" at the moment, but as the worklog progresses you'll see some of them come out into the open :D

[28/08/07]

Ok, not much happening today, but I've ordered a couple of parts:

- Lian Li PC-G70 Case

- 2x Hitachi 320gb SATAII 7200rpm 16mb Disks

- Asus Blitz Extreme

- Mosfet Coolers

- Swiftech Copper NB Cooler

Once payment for Project F40 clears on Saturday, this is what will be arriving:

- Lian-li Drive Bezel

- Akasa Fan controller

- Intel E6850 Chip

- BFG 8800GTS OC2

- Samsung 20x20 DVD-RW SATA

- 3x Orange SATA cables

- Creative X-FI Sound Card

- 2x Delta high-speed fans (190cfm)

[29/08/07]

In preparation for having the case powder coated (orange external / black internal), I have dug a few extra components out of my wardrobe that I want powder coating.

- Removed all internals components from PSU and cleaned of all labels ready for powder coating orange. (pics to come)

- Cleaned up OCZ Memory Cooler ready to be made orange

- Found spare Akasa fan controller bezel - to be made orange.

I'm still on the hunt for an orange sleeving kit and some low profile passive coolers for the Blitz southbridge and crosslinx chips. If anyone has any ideas, let me know :)

OK today the case arrived. After being a little disappointed with it's quality I put that aside and got to work. Here's what was done:

- Drive cage and riveted bracket removed.

- PSU cage removed

- All fans, plastic parts, labels and stickers removed (ready for spraying).

- All rivets drilled out and replaced with screws.

In addition to this I also knocked up some plans to take to the laser cutters:

Wootness! Will it be a tower or different design?

Its likely to be in a tower, but i'm going all out on this one and bringing in the laser cutters, powder coaters, spray painters and lots of hush hush bits!

It`s merely the testostorine involved here.

Definately go for the sprayed additions, de-cals are very available but have tendancies to either come off or look cheap.

Wonder how u can work-in the moonshine to the wc ?!?

Exactly. This project is going to be everything i've always wanted to do but was afraid of people saying "wtf why". Loads of LOUD Delta fans, rugged unpolished looks, cr@p loads of power (but most of it going to waste thru the rear wheels). It's gonna be fun to do :D

Wonder how well u could make a fan look like a car`s radiator fan ? Not todays fans, but the older ones - kinda an off yellow`d brown color.

hmmm, be so kewl if u could sort out a large-ish fan to go inside it that runs off a belt ! House a nice motor in a modded 3.5/5.25 bay.

DUDE! You are getting one of the new C3D e6850's? I hear those suckers clock to 7ghz no probs. On hot air too :p

As for your ram, you'll be pleased to hear there are price cuts on ddr3 due in the new year as ddr3 goes mobile (notebooks) :D

Cooling - aren't you going for what was briefly discussed? I won't spill the beans in case you were just toying with the idea... Do it!

Ooopsie, bit of a typo there :p

Your thoughts people...should I hunt down some orange LED fans or just grab a couple of hugely noisy Delta's and maybe spray them orange?

I would go with the Delta's or something like that, not really a huge lighted fan lover. I think lights behind fans look better.

Delta's on a f/c ftw.

Say, I'm thinking of getting some of the slimmer delta's 100cfm as a pose to these 140cfm ones... Maybe we can sort something out? Where are you sourcing them? Sidewinder?

I may well be interested. How many have you got and are they new? Sidewinder would be my first choice as the only place i know to buy Delta's from in the UK are t0553r5 ;)

I have four Super High Output but I think I want these

I have used 3 fans since I got the q6600 so literally a week or 2 max, one was just opened to test the other day.

I'm not really sure if I was suggesting splitting the shipping and ordering together or selling you mine, it is early!
