<project Blooli>

My first big major project so I thought I would post it here as progress continues with it for those who would like to know what I'm up to :) .

Task - Make my Lian Li PC-65B into a glowing bloo and red, prommy cooled, water cooled, and cable free case.

Materials - Lian Li PC-61 with window kit, 2 sheets of clear perspex, all normal cables with cases, Watchill GPU kit, Mach2 prommy, blue and red cathodes, blue and red LED fans. More to be added as I go on i expect.

Predicted spec - AMD64 3200+, Unknown mobo at present but probly MSI K8T Neo, 2 x 120gb SATA Cudas, Radeon 9800pro, LiteOn DVD-RW, LiteOn DVD-ROM, 1Gb Corsair XMS PC4000 TwinX

How is this gonna work?

Well I already started this project when I had to send my Mach2 back because I messed it up stoopid me  .

1. Mounted the water cooling rad in place at the top of the case with my trusty Dremel and 16 cutting disks and drill.

2. Drilled out rivets for the HDD rack in the bottom of the case to allow more space for waterchill pump and res.

3. Braided all power cables on my Enermax 460 black.

Not alot done really lol, going to start the main work as soon as my perspex arrives on my doorstep in the mornin :D You'll see this thread getting much larger as I add pics to my progress with this, 1st lot of pics will be tomoz when I find me camera.

Keep you updated with progress on this and problems I encounter.

Ok time for update and 1st set of pics.

All the materials have arrived so far for the things I have planned so far, work has begun on the case and the rad was mounted and a water leak test has been run just to make sure i didnt go and wreck my rad when it wasn't being used.

radmount.jpg

This pic shows the case with the water cooling installed with my old NB block on just after leak testing. You can see the rad mounted in the top to allow more free space at the bottom.

This is all the materials I have so far except the PSU which is over the other side of the room as you've all seen PSUs before :D. You may be wondering why on earth I have clear lexan sheets and silver transfer plastic stuff. This is all to do with the keeping the case cable free, not revealing too much at present until I know it's going to work :p.

Next jobs I may do tonight -

1. Cut the texan sheet to size and position in case

2. Install the CCs into the case

More to follow..... ;)

excellent mate, looking good, incidentally why did you leave half the 80mm grill on the top panel? This is the hardest bit to cut properly, so I have found.

Well 2 reasons really, the PSU is too long and gets in the way of the tubes if I had cut the whole grill away and mounted it closer to the back and also i thought if I left part of the grill it gives the hot air in the top of the case somewhere to escape instead of just throught the rad ;)

Was a real git to cut though I agree, went through 16 cutting disks on the black and decker dremmel before I had it done but worth it in the long run.

Also have an idea for the unwindowed side panel but this one is staying very well hidden until last thing, just to keep you lot thinking :D These ideas just keep popping into my head, its fun this modding stuff.

Interesting - I completely removed the grill on my panel because I wanted it looking neat - I just turned the rad round so the barbs were facing the optical drives instead of the psu - works fine. I'm hoping the majority of the heat generated by the rad will be exhausted by the Sunon.

Had a fun day today with a jigsaw and some perspex and some very thin wood i found lying around :D The first phase of my tidying plan is told.

How does someone hide those nasty cables that everyone seems to have on the floor of there case? Heres how.

perspex2.jpg

Now where could those cables be?....... Under the false perspex floor of course  The perspex on the bottom of the case is raised using some stickey number plate things I had left over and was cut using a pwer drill and jigsaw.

perspex.jpg

The wood was placed between the side of the case and the mobo tray to give the case a completely enclosed look, and somewhere to hide the cables easily. Cables will leave the mobo and either drop into a gap in the floor or in this wood panel and travel completely invisible to its connection at the other end where it pops back out and straight into the periphs. Obviously this will not all stay looking the way it does and some of you paying attention will guess whats gonna be done to it :)

As you can see I also placed the Hydor pump in the perspex which I think is going to look really good when everything gets finished off. I also opted to ditch the crappy Asetek res in favour of a bleed/fill tube system, due to less space needed and that res just looked so cheap :p

Thats all for now, 3 and a half hours work today on this. More to come tomoz maybe

Looking good Boardy, that's a pretty neat idea too. I'm going to try some more cable management first (leak testing my cheap res today :D ) but if that fails I may resort to blantant copy tactics.

Cheers. Your exactly right Brwmogazos was a right pain to get it the right size, it's still not perfect but I like it how it is because it holds itself in so I don't have to worry about fixing it and it's easier to remove. Just the perspex took me about 2 hours to do

No where near finished yet, need to get the mobo before i can finally get the correct places for other holes and such. Gonna cut the hole for the PSU cables to drop down behind the mobo tray tonight and maybe fit that in there. Watch this space :D

For now tho, off to catch up on some zzzzzz ;)

PSU Mounting, L20 Mod, and neatening up :D

Ok been real busy over the weekend so havn't really had much time to do much which is a booger but did a few little things.

psu2.jpg

1. Mounted PSU and hid cabling

2. Ripped apart my Asetek L20 and removed it from the case for now

3. Resized the wooden panel to allow the mobo tray to fit properly

Ok, theres quite a few pics in this one so sorry for anyone whos on 56k if any of you are

psu.jpg

This pic shows the hole I have made for the PSU cables to drop down behind the mobo tray so they can't be seen from the front of the case. Done with my trusty B&D Dremmel ;)

back.jpg

This pic and the one below shows the mass of cabling behind the mobo tray and wood divider. As you can see theres one hell of a lot of it! Can't wait to get the mobo in there and watch IDE, SATA and all the other cables come through the back, thats gonna be one massive job keeping those tidy behind there.

back2.jpg

The cables coming through the front left are the fan and front panel connectors. These are going to be zip tied to the side eventually but I'm leaving that until I have fitted everything in the case so I don't end up wasting loads of ties :p

l20.jpg

Finally here's my gd old trusty Aestek L20 which I'm converting to the original Hydor L20 by changing the push fit connectors with 1/2" ID Barbs, get that water really flowing for the GPU block and Pelt. Lots of people say the push fits are near impossible to remove but I found them extremely easy to remove, a slight twist and away they come, EASY.

That about wraps up todays fun :D

More coming soon......

w00t thx for the update boardy, i wanna see you pull of some nice cable management, i want some inspiration of how to do mine :P i already love your "sprung" floor :P

nice mate...

you got a B& D dremmel look alike tool?

i bought the B&D wizard myself and i have used all of its cutting discs already...

need to get some replacement ones for when i go back to Greece....

Cheers aXeR gonna be a real pain I can tell but I'll get there in the end, It's not gonna beat me ;) The floors gonna get more interesting thats all im gonna say for now, just gonna have to watch this space :D

Brwmogazos it is the B&D Dremmel Wizard I have aswell, horid orange and black thing, but runs off mains voltage so is very powerful i love it. I've been through nearly 2 tubs of cutting discs on this case alone so far now  Got my mates Powerbase dremmel here aswell but its so weedy and cant even cut the thin wood without jamming up.

Anyone know where I can get the diamond edged dremmel cutting discs from? Aparently there like £15 each but last a bloody long time, may invest in a few instead of getting loads of discs that last no time at all.

Anyway, thanks for the comments guys keeps me motivated for the rest of the project :) More updates to follow

Ok for those of you who are interested I just did a little searching and found this site http://www.pro-tool.co.uk/ which sells mainly dremels and all the attachments and cutters you could ever want. Found my diamond cutters gonna cost £14 for 1 disk, part Dremel 545 Diamond Wheel.

Hope this helps anyone else looking for better cutters or even a dremel.

Oops

Well I managed to mess up completely today, put the top of the case down to get the tubes off the rad. This is what happened.

fan.jpg

As you can see, I managed to smash the fan completely knocking one of the holding arms off  Looks like I may have a reason to by a 120:2 rad all of a sudden :D

i really shudnt laugh but it does looks quite comical :P sorry boardy ! and thanks for the link, ill prolly buy some tools off that wen i got cash left over :D

It does look amusing doesn't it :D I laughed myself so I spose I could let you laugh aswell aX hehe.

As for an update.......well I just got my Mach2 back from Phil after my unfortunate incident with my NF7s and all working again, YEY FOR PHIL (cheers mate) :D

Just ordered DVD-RW for the system, hopefully hear about the mobo later on this evening, and proc shall be ordered tomoz night :D So far it's all going to plan and is going to be built some time next week when everything comes and lands on my doorstep.

Can't wait for this
