Professional noob incoming!

I cant even remember the model of the 1000w model I had that went bang and took a rig with it.

Unless the reviews have a proper PSU tester then they are garbage

According to TechPowerUp the ZX 1250 is a pretty decent PSU for the buck. That is of course if TechpowerUp is a trustworthy site :p

EDIT: What's the major cause of OCZ's going bang then? Pure curiosity :D

Same as the rest of their line up - they dont care about anything other than making money from a sale. Once you have bought it they dont care.

They knowingly released a range of SSD's knowing full well that 40% would brick. Two other manu's using the same controller delayed their launches to fix the firmware.....

OCZ said meh - they can RMA them.

So basically they're douchebags. Good thing I didn't buy their SSD and went for Kingston instead. MAYBE things'll change with Toshiba taking over.

I do hope though the PSU holds out, but I don't think it'll blow on me since we've got a very stable powergrid over here.

How did it blow then? I don't find too much information on ZX 1250's going haywire :/ The only thing that pops to mind is the lack of a MOV ...

Yeah, but they only took over the SSD division, no?

And thanks Excalabur50!!

it was a 750w that blew when the system was at being stress tested! On a rig that was literally less than a week old, a rig which would have ran fine on any good 500w psu. the friend wanted the extra wattage for upgrade room.

took most of the components with it, somehow the cpu made it out alive, nothing else survived

i believe the cpu was a Phenom II 955.

Is anything happening with that big fancy PSU tester you got a while back? I've not heard anything of it lately.

Ouch! Pricey ...

So the psu wasn't even going at max capacity?

not even close, it was a phenom ii 955 quad core with a hd 6870, one hard drive and a small ssd.

got some of the components replaced but it was in all a expensive time consuming exercise.

had a similar OCZ 750w psu in my personal system (which had dual gtx 460's at the time) but replaced it soon after i bought my old hd 7950.

i don't believe i could ever trust any OCZ product again.

That's pretty faulty o_O No wait, more broken actually ... Wow o_O Still, as long as my psu functions fine, I'm happy ^_^ This one will survive. Up until now it's been flawless. Let's just see what the future brings

What's your psu atm?

its a coolermaster silent pro 1000w, super mega overkill for my needs but i got it for a good price, bought it from Fez here on the forums.

Sweet. No it isn't overkill, it's just an open door to MORE BADASSERY!

Anyway, I have a quick question. Everyone is going on about psu's being upside down. Now this guy (http://forum.overclock3d.net/showthread.php?t=58725) has his psu mounted completely different than me. Mine is lying flat down, fan upwards. His is sidewards. Am I retarded?

The PSU mounts in the 900D are sideways, which is why his PSU is like that. People were still commenting on there to swap it round, or cover up the sticker.

Right, but still, what is generally approved here? I'm a little confused. Fan up? Or down?

Thanks for the comment though :D

Up tends to look better as a fan grill (+ fan) looks a lot better than a sticker with some text and logos on it :)

Or at least that's what most people on this forum would agree on.

Of course it is a matter of opinion, but the overwhelming majority would say fan up looks nicer than the label being visible.

I used to have mine with the fan up but I dropped a pci screw in it one day and it took an ageeeeeeeeeee to get out so I just flipped it. Plus my psu is awkward so with the fan up the cables are on the wrong side (towards the front).

But isn't it better to put it in fan-down? I mean, I just changed 2 fans in front and noticed that my GPU and my PSU are battling for air o_O So if I'd put my psu upside down (and raise the stands of the case a bit), my GPU should get more air in since the psu's huge fan doesn't suck it away, no?

Most psu fans spin too slowly to make a big difference, for example some of the new corsair units don't even turn the fan on till it hits 40% load I think.

That's what I've always been afraid of, so I just have a cover on the label side of my PSU, and I also have something that stands on it too, so the fan grill wouldn't be optimal being there.

Sounds like a nice tidy rig, and dont worry to much about them temps the 780 likes to hit around 80'C

And hey OCZ might be getting better soon with toshiba taking over

Well ... I wouldn't exactly call it 'tidy'. There's a ton of cables in there. When I first got the case I nearly lost my mind figuring out which cable was going where. Luckily I found a box of velcro straps in my brother's room :p
