Problems with EVGA 780 Ti Classified Cards

Hi,

I'm looking for peoples opinions and need some guidance.

I am currently on my 3rd 780 Ti Classified following 2 RMA's and the new card is also faulty.

The first card was ordered from Scan. It was black screening on games and down clocking heavily so I returned it for a replacement. The 2nd card had very loud coil whine of which I sent a video to EVGA Support and they advised me to RMA it. Upon receiving my 3rd card I was gutted to find that it had a very loud mechanical noise coming from one of the fans. Again after providing support with a video they have advise me to RMA.

Now I shall be honest, I am genuinely fed up with the situation. The down time without a card is annoying and I'm getting quite stressed about the whole thing! I'd like to know what others would do in my situation? Should I try a 4th Classified card? EVGA have said I could use the step-up program but it'd be more of a downgrade as the highest spec card I could get would be a 780 6GB, so that's out of the question. I've asked if I could pay the difference for an upgrade but they are unable to. My only other option is to get a refund (if possible) and go with a different manufacturer. I don't really want to do this but I have read about a lot of problems with the ACX cooler online and am starting to wonder if my luck won't change with these cards.

What are everyone's thoughts?

Having had 3 myself I have difficulty believing any ACX fan will last for the life of a card if most of them are audible when brand new. If you aren't going to block it I would pick another card but none of them are immune to manufacturing faults.

Damn, that's not good news... Maybe if I can get a refund I'll go with the Asus Matrix...

Well sometimes manufacturers think they are too good and they miss some quality tests . EVGA is one company witch they usually release tons of versions of same chip-set....i really didint have any evga card but in my experience with Asus and gigabyte never had any issue. As for matrix...well that card is for extreme overcloking so in my opinion payng around 650 £ for that isint a choice so good unless u are planing to do a LN cooling on it...lol. gigabyte windforce i heard and also saw they are quite good with temperatures and also the sound from coolers...

Got EVGA to upgrade me to the Kingpin 780 Ti. Hopefully it'll have a better ACX cooler.

As for Gigabyte, I'll never buy a GPU from them again, had to many issues with them.

Better binned but DESIGNED FOR LN2. The memory supposedly isn't very good unless its under LN2. Its the titan of the 780ti world, i.e. costs alot and it won't really be used for it's true purpose by the vast majority of owners.

Honestly people shouldn't even bother with EVGA unless its their hydro stuff, I've found their quality control to be non existent. Gainward,KFA and Inno3d are a better option imo.

I suspect now someone has said K|NGP|N the guy who has a 'slight' thing for EVGA will show up now as well.

I see, thought so thanks for the clarification. The only reason I ever actually go for EVGA is when I know that I will be water cooling. As they were the only manufacturer to not void the warranty upon alterations to the heatsink.

Indeed, after 3 faulty Classifieds I was beginning to give up hope but fingers crossed this Kingpin card will be a good one!

well my last experience with EVGA involved having to get through 4 different GTS 450s before I had one that wasn't effed. I hope you have better luck

IIRC the Kingpin uses Samsung VRAM, it does not overclock as high as the VRAM on the regular 780ti Classified. The Kingpin Samsung memory does give better performance though as it uses better timings giving higher performance at lower clocks.

I hope ya new kingpin works out well for ya and i got a ref 780 by evga for that same reason.
