My new VW UP will arrive tomorrow I think. I won't be able to drive it until the 26th of this month as that's when my insurance is going to drop in price, but at least I'll be able to sit in it.

This is petty as hell but the main reason i don't use their forums is because I find their it difficult to navigate and hate the colour scheme :lol:

Drop in price? Because of age? And i don't get the hole, insuring a person to the car.
In DK it is the type of car + the experience of the owner (not driver) that sets the price.
I have to pay 5900DKK (700£) pr. year, with an excess of 3000 (360£) (Double if the driver is under 25)
It does not matter who drives the car, only caveat is the double excess for a young driver.
You should have waited, and gotten a UP GTI

This is my first car. I passed my driving test last November but have been a named driver on a family member's insurance since last February. At the end of the month I'll therefore have been a named driver for a year without any claims and will be able to avail of much cheaper insurance. If I were to purchase insurance now I would be paying €500 or more extra.
I'm 29 and that doesn't really play into it very much once you're over 25 (I think it's that). It's more my lack of experience that puts the price up for me. I'll be paying around €1200 for fully comprehensive. That would go up to around €2000 without the year's experience as a named driver. And next February, my insurance should (as long as I don't claim) reduce further.
I couldn't afford a GTI.
I only had a max of €8k to spend. Plus a GTI would be significantly more expensive to insure since it's 110-odd bhp. My next car will be more powerful.

Bought a Fiat Stilo Abarth style car. 3200€ for the first year
The biggest problem in DK is the damm TAX 85% on the value up to 25.000€ and 150% on the rest. PLUS VAT
= Golf GTD mit alles price in Germany 51.000€, price in DK 92.500€
Mine is used = 36500€. Then it is imported, rebuild as a VAN = No rear seats = 50% tax
So it costs 54000€ I could get a lightly used Audi RS3 for that kind of money

Wow, that's pretty horrific. Is there a reason for such high taxes on vehicles?

It started in 1925 to limit the import of cars. And then raised to pay for a bridge. And again in 1977 for no apparent reason. To 180%
Then in 2015 they lowered it and again in 2017. But still it is more than insane.
