Post A Picture of Your Last Purchase

When you buy on the internet you do not pay tax unless it ships from the state you reside in. However, when it reaches you you are supposed to declare it and pay the tax. That's how it worked when I was living there. Does Newegg charge you tax? because they ship out of Cali.

That's not how it works.
Newegg will always charge tax because their HQ is in California. And no matter where they ship from, there warehouse in LA or New Jersey, it gets charged. You pay it upfront when you buy online. It's part of the transaction.
If you live in a State without sales tax they won't charge you for it. But there are loopoles and varies from State. Some states may still require you to pay for it even if said state doesn't have it's own tax.

That is how it used to work. However, due to a lot of sales hitting the net they may well have changed it. Newegg used to charge me no matter where it shipped from by 2007 but it wasn't always like that. I reckon they had Uncle Sam breathing down their necks.

With most of the world's trade being done on the internet now the USA had to do something. Otherwise they would have ended up with 0 sales tax at the end of the year.

I promise it did not. You've never waited to pay the tax. I have lived here my whole life and been to multiple states. Even have friends who live in other states, you've always payed upfront. In fact this is the first time I've ever heard anyone saying you need to declare for something and then pay tax once received. If you are talking about shipping something yourself, you have the option to declare something, but it's optional and you don't pay sales tax on shipping(well sort of. That's a whole other can of worms).

Where did you live may I ask? Because I honestly don't know where you are getting all that from.

New Jersey. That is what I was told. In 2007 Newegg opened a warehouse in NJ and they started charging tax, even if it came from Cali. Then when I went to Ohio it was back to paying nothing.

Yeah, apparently it's based on the presence in the state as I thought.

But is Tax and VAT "the same" in the US.
In Denmark we pay 25% VAT on everything, and then some stuff has extra tax.
For instance alcohol and tobacco.
There is a tax on blank media, DVDs and USB flash drives.
Cars is charged 105% upto approx 10.000£ and then 150% on the rest + VAT.

Pris = price
Afgift = Tax
Moms = VAT

You do realize you just agreed with what I said while disagreeing with yourself right? This was one of the first things I said.

Tax is the same as VAT, ie, it's a tax that gets put towards purchased goods. They may not have the same function in both countries, but it's essentially your version of our tax.

Found a gift card from earlier this year (birthday) for Lowe's, it was still good they said. My mom gave it to me, about that same time is when she started going downhill so I forgot about it. Used it to pay for half of this saw. The cat is my Stevie, he weighs in at 23 pounds (10.4 kg).

Im actually a fan of Dell's - I have two now.

I have an all singing all dancing XPS15 and I have just got an Inspiron 13 for the workshop. The last one was a bargain £370 refurb from Dell with 3 years warranty - came looking like new, I think it was just a return!
