That's the very R9 290 I was looking at getting, the reviews of that have been extremely positive so-far. It's amazing how much of a mockery it makes of the reference AMD cooler.SIN, you are not allowed to have nice things. Please send me your case strait away :lol:
I just bought this Sapphire 290, should have it on Saturday if all goes well.
As for me I've this Gigabyte GA-F2A88XN-WIFI FM2+ Kaveri ready motherboard along with an AMD A8-6400K for my HTPC on order. I wanted to get the A10-6700T 45W APU but I couldn't find it anywhere, this APU is unlocked so I can always underclock it to make it a bit quieter. Hopefully they'll arrive by next weekend.
I managed to brick my A4-5300 and MSi A55 FM2 board over the xmas while swapping the CPU cooler by spilling thermal paste into the CPU socket, and over the botton of the APU. :crazy:
Although on a more positive note, I'll have the ability to play with the Kaveri APUs when they come out, depending on how they perform I might pick one up later in the year, maybe that A10-7850k.

Yeah, reviews for it are great. The Anandtech one shows the maximum noise level they got at full load in furmark was only 43db, which is ~9db quieter than a 780/Ti. The max temp they got was only 74c* as well which is ~10c* cooler than the 780/Ti. So not only is it insanely quiet, it also runs cool.
I'll be doing tests and posting results when I get it as well
Looks like one of those bad things that happen that turn out to be for the best
The Kaveri APUs seems promising and at least you will be good to go when the are released.

That's the problem, I didn't know until after I powered it up. I was scratching my head wondering why there was no video out after swapping the cooler. The Fans would spin up, and the hard drives would power up, but the power button wouldn't work after that. Sure enough, powered it off and took off the cooler to find quite the mess. :wacko:I did that to my 8320. Its an easy fix as long as you haven't powered it up.

Is that stock AMD cooler? If so I believe the thermal paste they use is actually non conductive. You might still be lucky

I doubt I'd be lucky as most good thermal conductors are normally electrical conductors too. Although truth be told, I was looking for an excuse to replace that cheap MSi FM2 board anyway, it made me want to pull my hair out. It's the 1st and now last board that I'll ever skimp on.
Hopefully the new board and APU won't take too long to come, I'm just dying to get playing with a Mini-ITX board for the 1st time. ^_^

Very nice, I've always wanted to get myself a smart phone like that but I wouldn't use it enough to justify the outlay plus I'm really bad at losing phones ^_^
