3rded that :). I don't really go on gaming review website because they are full of ads and are too much is crammed into each page. But, I do like to read a good review on any decent game that comes out :)

I think video content would be a step forward. Also modding articles would be good, altho there aren't many people actively modding stuff anymore due to the pre-modded case market :(

Game reviews I think are a waste of time given the number of magazines and websites which already do this. Also some games are percieved differently by different types of players.

Some of the technology news is good, but I find a lot of them to either not be news at all or to be a rip-off of another site. Also loads of them are boring. Things like "samsung release ddr3 ram" followed by "corsair release ddr3 ram" followed by "gskill release ddr3 ram" are just a bit boring and pointless. An article about DDR3 RAM and the benefits, speeds, timings aswell as the comparison with costs involved would be totally different.

Maybe delve into computer security, altho I'm not that sure how many people are that interested in that on here as most seem to be young gamers who go for the latest gimmicky piece of hardware. Also I guess it runs the risk of legality as it's not a closed community.

There are loads of video reviewers on the net who are crap and know little about hardware and technical stuff, so maybe OC3D could make a name for themselves using this new media approach? Altho I guess it would take a bit of time :( OC3D tv? :D

Agreed on the Video's thing, deffo be a nice idea

As for the news - we post as much as we can first hand but tbh the UK/US sites don't tend to get 1st hand news very much and it's better 2nd hand than none. Copying another sites news and linking is not ripping off just sharing good news. Hey - you were on the news/review team so you could have helped ;)

Posting press releases is part of a website like OC3D's job - everyone does it to keep the industry happy and to make sure manufacturers get exposure. We will not stop doing it.

As for security news I don't think many people are hugely interested in it...I know I wouldn't be able to write a good article on it as I am not interested.

Fist off, nice post ;)

Video content would be impressive, I overlooked that this morning! Are you thinking video reviews, or am I missing the point?

Modding is quite small on this site but Mark is always doing something and we usually have someone having a go at a cube or case! It would be good to see more people have a go, although lack of tools/experience may hinder most...

I never look to other sites for reviews anymore, I look but always see faults and don't feel they are unbiased. I'd like someone I trusted (e.g. :oc3d: member) to review the game. Granted some people love FPS or RTS but i'm sure if the reviewer drew some parallels to other games e.g. liked COH's, you'll like C&C3 etc then you would get an idea...

I hear you on this one. News is hard to bring. You need industry contacts and insider information to get 'new' news. People on big sites like XS for example receive ES samples/new products to test as they are regarded by the community/manufacturers as skilled users, or work for big corporations so get previews/involved in testing - all these factors allow them to bring new news.

Us newsies are just enthusiasts trying to bring you up to date info on whats happening. I don't have the expendible income or time to buy some ddr3 mobos and ram to test. Hell, I wish I could! Also, there is an oc3d article section, this is seperate to news...

I cringe sometimes at what I have to post, I really wish AMD would send me something cool to play with, but they don't :(

Don't have a clue about this but I would be interested to learn...

I agree here.

BTW - i wasn't criticising you, but your post had some good points that compelled me to throw in my thoughts... I come in peace! :D

Cool :)

Not going to quote kempez or Mr.Smith, but I agree with a lot of the points.

The news thing is hard to do and even harder to be the first one to post it or even to be original. I think that's probably one of the reasons why I stopped posting news as most of the time it wasn't really news and other times I felt like I was just passing on articles which other people had already done.

I did try to get proper original content with my posts tho, making it almost exclusive and also new.

I have to say tho, there have been a few news items which I have sent to people who I know. The most recent was the keep fit step for the nintendo wii. :D

The point of the news is to spread the word, not necessarily have something absolutely new and original. Probably the majority here do not spend their time going around looking for news and rely on this site to centralize news from other places so that they stay informed.

(Ya, that was badly worded)

I got the jist of it ;) and I definately agree with that point. I cba trawling around other review sites when OC3D can pick out the best of the lot. Doesn't bother me in the slightest if it is 'new' news or not :p

I am actually very pleased with OC3D!!!!!

I honestly cant say anything bad bout this site when I have a question it always gets answered.People on here are very nice.

Ticked everything cept the bottom 2.

New Media is the umbrella phrase for tech`s new approach to looking at previously pc related `stuff` and it`s involvement with newer tech. Noteably mobile interests, typical htpc content and new inventive ways of looking at things.

What this brings into reality tho, is that the inside of the pc isn`t that important to `people`. If something breaks these days, not much time is spent (outside of the enthusiast world) finding a way to fix it. Usually it`s taken out and replaced.

Reason I ticked what I did, is that OC3D mainly means these things to me, and it`s continuation, and maybe increase, in what it does at the moment would please me generally.

I`d like the encouragement of members to post things they`ve done without deconstructive criticism. Anything at all really. If some1 spray paints their psu - I want pics, demo and whatever. If people aren`t interested it`ll fall down the forum, but it`s posting and the following conversation is kewl. An "I just did this.." sub section of the mod forum for people just to throw things in there.

The `other` suggestion tick, out of the ordinary stuff, but quality items that are in the pc-related domain.

e.g. we don`t particularly want OC3D to turn into a TV devoted review site - however, with HDTV and so many newer TVs adopting pc/gaming/htpc compatible connectabilities, they are a luxury item to have if u`r a pc enthusiast. (has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with me wanting Kemp to do a feature on his freshly ordered TV so I don`t have to do anything about mine. But point being Kemp`s would be that much better - picture wize, descriptive, literol, and more of a pov with a more modern pc than any I have @home @present.)

Don`t particularly trust online game reviews, so really I could care less about that factor. Reviewers either base the review too much on their pov (which sounds silly, but if u think about it we don`t all want to read a review from some1 about CSS from some1 who favors SuperMario games), a bias to the retailer/producer (to favor), or don`t ask the questions that should be asked - imo of course.

Now a game review in the fashion that OC3D reviews gfxcards etc, i.e. strip the surface, that I have time for. Regular game reviewing - forget it. I wanna know if u went to install it and it failed and u had to search for a reason, nothing was on the writer`s site (which is a failing imo) and u found a solution somewhere (run in win2k mode or something). It failed to play well through a soundcard. In XP and Vista.. nVidia drivers failed, and so on. Reviews on Macs and Linux systems I`d like to see, it`d be pretty unique, but people are here with the stuff, maybe it`s time they stepped forward and did a review or 2.

End of the day tho, OC3D may well be great imo, but it`s plain to see just from this thread, that it`s williness to embrace new things`n`ideas is very evident.
