Playstation Home Beta

z'OMG! That is SO much better than the crappy xbox update that they just released.. all I can say is WANT! lol

Nice little review kemp, thankyou ;)

hehe, looks so NICE!

Sounds absolutely pants to me.

It's just a fancy Second Life or Habbo Hotel. Why on Earth would I want to play this when I own a frickin' powerful games console? Same applies for the 360 (although at least the latest update wasn't all about avatars etc); spend more time making the games awesome and hardware run better and I will be far happier.

Meh, I just got the impression seeing it on tv that it was "like" m$ copying a $ony 8 bit thing and then $ony came out with a new 16 bit thing.

Be nice if they perhaps thought something up themselves that doesn't get exclusively used by 'M' with help from animation.

Microsoft havent not-copied since the days of when Apple took Microsoft to court on the release of Windows 3.1 because they copied the idea of a desktop UI xD

I'm not easily impresed by this kind of thing really, but it really is a nice free addition. Let's remember that, it's free. Costs zip. Sony didn't have to give us this, but they did. It's fantastic and is a great social network tool and a fantastic extra to have with a console.

And yes, it does far outshine the 360's version, not even funny how much....

Looks great, I must admit, but I doubt I would be using it if I had a PS3. As for the X360-update, I didn't even want to set up an avatar in the first place. I use my Xbox for gaming, not for MSN and stuff like that. But meh, I guess it would have an appeal to some people, so why not. As Kemp said, it's free.

i think the xbox one is perfectly fine. Loving how you can copy the game to hard drive to play.

Heard that doing that is actually detrimental to performance in a percentage of games. Main benefit is to curb the noise from the (near) ever spinning DVD drive... And to be honest.. Xbox owners shouldn't have to use harddrive space and lose performance on some games just to shut up a crap DVD drive.

i cant see how it its detrimental to performance in some games, surely the access/read speeds are far quicker, or am not getting something.

This is off Fud, but I read it in more detail somewhere else too.

In many cases the fact that the Xbox 360 title was designed to use the DVD drive makes installing it to the hard drive actually reduce performance. While this is not true in every case it seems that big titles such as Halo 3 use the Xbox 360 utility partition on the hard drive to improve performance by caching data on this utility partition, making installing the game to the hard drive actually degrade performance.

In our informal testing in the past 24 hours or so, our results were mixed. Several titles that we tried did seem to have a very slight real improvement in performance that was noticeable by loading them on the hard drive, but in most cases the load times were about the same.

Still, the option does offer one very positive benefit, which is that you don’t have to listen to the DVD-ROM drive continue to spin during game play. Noise is one area where the hard drive loading option wins hands down.

they should have released silent / quiet dvd drive revisions by now, from what i've heard the new ones are still bloody ridiculous it's not difficult really is it?

my dvd drive bloody screams! coupled with the crappy ass fans in it (anyone got links to quieter ones i can fit myself it's the next thing on my list) it's louder than my pc while gaming :( (which at present is LOUD)

Home looks amazing, but yeah my DVD drive on my 360 aswell is horrible and i'm not ready to fork out £100 for a 120gb HDD. Mine makes weird noises like a sorta scratch noise when it firsts turns on and weird noises when it's ready disks.. I need a new one. But if you mod it to make it quieter you get banned from live.

The trouble is that the 360 DVD drive has to spin 2 to the dozen to get the data across fast enough to play the games, whereas the BR drive hardly has to spin up at all.

M$ really needs to fork out for blu-ray, but they dont wanna spend all that money, and knowing Microsoft the players would be very expensive, although they think the future is digital, for movies maybe but not games. Seeing as The Last Remnent is on two discs it's huge.

It wouldn't be so bad if u could buy ur own device and plug it into a port, like a usb port or firewire.

Not cost effective to allow u to do that.
