PERSONAL SUPERCOMPUTER

Was spec'ing one and found this on youtube a week ago. Really expensive stuffs for using all SSD storage. I'm going to use one SSD for OS+programs (or 2 in raid-0), another one to "cache" temporary/frequent use files (not software-control like Z68 but manually

), then use HDD for storage.

Wonder what is taking so long for him to post an update on that rig. Maybe it just did not happen. Could not get it to work, Client backed out, who Knows. But it was quite a tease.

Finally an update

Hmmm seems not that great.

1. There isn't a whole lot of modding going on, he seems to be getting everyone else to do the work, some one else built the case, some one else drilled it, some one else will be painting it. But the only real mods are painting the case and some parts but he makes it out to be a lot more.

2. the water cooling loop looks good but I think some things will get more flow than others the right CPU has 5 bends for the water cooling to go around, the left CPU has 2 bends. I can see one running hotter then the other. 2 separate loops for both CPU's would be a lot better.

3. The guy has brought 24 SSD's until he has got the right ones for the build and that with out the build even being close to being finished. He should have waited until the PC was ready to install SSD's before he brought that many, Probably should see how well they RAID on the SR-2 with the RAID card first before the full build. They guy needs to do some research before buying, The guy paying for the system seems to have told him what to buy and should be building it him self.

4. That case's air flow dose not look very good at all, Ok the CPU and video cards will be water cooled but they will still emit heat into the case not to mention the RAID card, HDD's, RAM heat and heat from the rest of the motherboard, It will become a hot box, 2 intake fans and 2 out take fans plus 2x PSU fans won't be enough even with the external water cooling loop.

5. He has never installed a network card before. Erm How long has this guy been building computers? Must not have been very long and he going to set up some guys 10GB's network card with his fiber. :S

Bending metal and Painting it isn't that impressive, I'd rather some one on here build me a "super computer" on here rather than this guy.

By the time this is finished the second series of 2011 CPU's will be out and a single CPU and GPU will be out preforming it.

Its a cool system but it is a 2010 computer system that will be finished in 2012.

Valid points ^^

Even I was thinking, why buy everything all together? When you can get the latest hardware as you need it. Probably just 2 make the initial build vid i guess.

But if i was the client spending all that money... i wouldnt be too impressed with how long its taking!

All i have to say is... That is about the ugliest looking little fitting loop thingy i have ever seen... Its not even cool or nify looking... It would look alot better to see some red tubing then it would be to see all that bull...

If you had $20,000 you had to spend on a system would you build some thing like this? let alone not even wait for 2011 socket?

I wouldn't but the client wants to and this guy is just building it for him. Also i'm pretty sure he is aware that 2011 is out soon and he has discussed it with the client. Just because it's not what you would do or something you don't like doesn't mean it's wrong. There is always the you could have used this, or could have used that, done this or that or even waited a while and got this or the other.

The guy knows what he is doing and when it is all built and I have seen benchmarks and how the whole thing looks then I will criticism but until then ...

My two cents, personal opinion, etc, etc....
