People who pretend they know loads about computers :@

Just had the same guy tell me he was worried because minecraft was "using" more fps than fallout

When such a thing ever happens, I make it very clear to the person that I was really not pleased by his/her reply and just walk away.

Oh, I've had worse...

There is this one dude:

Me: A long time ago: "Yeah, I'm planning on buying an HD6950"

He: "Whats the memory?"

Me: 2GB, why?

He: "OMG! BEST GPU IN THE WORLD!!!"

or, same guy:

He: Omg, games lag so bad, I need to upgrade my ram!

Me: ..... How much Ram do you have now? (I thought, Wtf, Ram? But if he has 1GB, ok...)

He: 4Gb

Me:...

same guy:

He: OMG! They have watercooling for 70euros at *random store*

Me: Show me.

He: *Shows me picture of an Corsair H70*...

Still he thinks he knows absolutely everything about computers... AAARGH!

Geez.

I have had an experience in pc world once where some other guy in there was buying 2, 5970s or 5870s and asked me for advice instead of the people working there. Obviously I just look like I know more

As I've just finished school now, i have also had a few incidents there where half the people seem to think a computer is just laptops now, and dont seem to think desktops even exist... Someone even told me they could build a laptop because 'It cant be that hard'. I find it more frustrating when you cant argue back to them because they dont understand what you're saying.

Also talking about building my mate a pc I've had people believing that involves soldering all the components to the motherboard and building the processor yourself etc... If i cant be arsed to explain I occasionally just say yeh...kind of gets rep up a little haha.

Ahaha, that I can relate to. When telling my friends that I was building a PC, they all thought I was some kind of technological genius and that I would me manufacturing all my own parts

When you tell them that all you do is put premade parts together, they do seem to get a little disappointed, though. These days, everyone's a critic

ALL of my mates KNOW not to argue with me, when it comes to ANY tech

if i am unsure about something, i keep quiet, and i read up on it at the first opportunity i get.

i am often remarked upon as, "How the heck do you know that?". i have alot of useless stuff in my head - but it is excellent for quizzes, etc.

Sounds just like me.

I get in many computer of friends/people who have tried to build a PC themselves. One managed to screw in the motherboard DIRECTLY to the case, without any standoffs's. But the worst one was only some months ago. A friend came in with a computer, and said it was not working. I trobleshooted it, and found out he had literally smashed the poor FX-4100 CPU into the motherboard, leading to bending a lot of pins. Lucklily, I managed to bend back all expect for one pin that was so bent that it fell off. And I got the computer working again. But usually, I build computers FOR people since most of my friends never wants to do something like that themselves.

I know this feeling lol. I'm no guru on comps but i know enough to be able to sort out most problems.

Sounds quite like me. I usually get asked stuff about computers or how to fix stuff, the basics are usually enough to get me through. If that doesn't work, i will have to look it up on the internet. It's usually pretty interesting.

Here's one for you...

Uncle: My PC picked up a virus or something the other day.
Me: Oh, not good, would you like me to take a look at it for you?
Uncle: No, no, that's ok I sorted it.
Me: Cool, well done. How did you sort it then?
Uncle: Well I uninstalled something called "Norton" and I don't get the messages any more.
Me: Ok, cool...erm, hang on WTF?

The result of this was me fixing a PC which had so many reported infections it wasn't even funny. Windows was dead, lots of services and feature had been disabled as the virus(s) tried to protect themselves from removal. Int he end I had to go old skool and kill stuff manually, before getting some decent software on there to clean it up.

Even now he periodically uninstalls vital things for reasons only known to him...it keeps me in work though lol. (kidding)

Doubtless like many on here I'm the one who helps people fix / build PC's on a fairly regular basis. I always give my time for free, well sometimes the cost of my share of the Pizza or whatever, but essentially free. Little do people know how much our time is worth if we were to charge...

...actually, some "friends" of mine had been taking advantage of me a little some time back. I'd get invited round, only to get the "btw, out PC is slow / hot / something's not working" etc. and I'd end up spending HOURS sorting things out where they'd done something daft. I'm nice like that. All this time they'd be having a pleasant evening while I work.

I did start getting a bit miffed and one time they called me about their broken PC yet again but I was unable, and not too willing, to help this time. I was basically laid up in bed injured, though they STILL expected me to look at their PC! A visit by them to a local "PC Specialist" and £200 later they still had a broken PC...I think they learnt the value of knowledge... and the play nice with the PC guy...

Scoob.

funniest one i got:
My dad knows a lot about computers, and he told me that Nvidia gpus are better than the MSI one you recommended me.
lulz

http://www.downloadmoreram.com/download/ someone seriously linked me that. also i once had a guy who bought an i7 3930k and a gt430 for gaming and then got mad at me for making fun of him. i guess apple tards fit into that group as well. i had a practical training at a pc shop for 2 weeks and the people i met there just blew my mind, if you can't handle stupid people don't come up with the idea of working at a pc shop, it's so awful.

Epic!!!!!:D

I've had instances where I've fixed someone's laptop (I say fixed, it was more like just running AV/anti spyware scans) and then they complain it's not running as it should.

Usually it seems I removed one of those spyware tool bars and they missed it
