PCIe 2.0 Ratified

all these people that say "we dont need things yet" are crazy!!! I'd prefer all these technologies to keep moving up as quick as they can. You say pci-e 2 isnt needed yet, but you dont know, someone may have been waiting for the standard to be ratified in order to start there development, thus keeping the technology race up to speed. Nobody is forcing us to have the latest greatest stuff, if something comes out faster then so be it. Just means that couple years down the line when the average joe updates his system, they will be a hell of a lot better.

anyways, i'm starting to go on and make no sense what so ever...

Literaly speaking we dont need them, but to have them there is a good thing. Like the olllllld argument of AGP over PCI-E, of course we didnt need PCI-E, but its there so why not.

lol Is PCIE 2 backwards compatible?

They are going to make us spend another how much 500-600 $$$?? on a new card and motherboard  only in the end we see a 2FPS bost

this is why people like me say we dont need this just yet.. there arent cards that can fully utilize this bandthwidth :p

PSI-e2 is backwards compatible so read t3h thread

They're not going to make you buy anything...it's something you can buy if you want to keep up with the technology.

Don't like it?

Don't buy it and stop moaning

Not really it's just annoying me that people don't realise that this is the way the industry is and always will be. Constantly changing and (hopefully) improving.

If people don't want to buy new stuff they don't have to. That's a fact.

I for one am looking forward top all the innovations that are coming - new Tech - Bring it on!

As for bandiwth utilization, dosn't the 8800 series use pretty much all of the x16 slots. And the 7950 GX2 also, although i know thats 2 chips @ x8 each.

Didnt we have the 8x/16x discusion on another page? There are no games that would currently cause it to use all the bandwidth so i dont see how it would be utilized. Its great that the extra headroom is there though.
