you know what? you might be searching for something you can't find. the reason i'm saying that is because my PC used to do the same thing you describe here, randomly shuts down, and usually after that the mobo doesns't detect any sata drives ?!?! but for me i just unplug the rig from the wall and then when i plug it back it back to normal. the work perfectly for a while and then out of the blue it just shuts down.
now this problem was A LOT more frequent before i updated the firmware on my ssd ( the SAME one you have) so i can tell you with 90% sureness that it is those dum ***** ocz ssd's, if i knew i wouldn't have tried to save by buying those (they were the cheapest sata3 ssd when i got them) a lot of then actually just DIE, so we are actually pretty lucky that we just have a randomly shutting down pc, instead of a dead drive
.....
and for the firmware you said you had trouble getting it to work? i did too but i got it by doing this: (i suggest you try it and see if your system's stablilty imporves)
1. first get a usb and download your favorite linux distro and install it on the drive (i used ubuntu)
2. now that you have linux on a usb, reboot and go to the bios, and boot from the usb.
3. now you should be in linux and the now since the OS is on the usb stick, your vertex's are not primary drives in anyway. now i forget the setups for the install of the firware, but you should find instructions on how to do it from linux from their site,
now it should work and if your lucky like i was, it wasn't a destructive upgrade so i didn't lose anything (but i'm not saying not to back up, back up ur drives
cuz you never know . i'm just letting you know what happened in my case)
hope this helps
let us know your progress
