RAM is notorious for "just dieing" yet the most common cause it that the mobo/psu killed it due to some shoddy voltage regulation on the mobo while the computer is "soft-off" (like most DFI boards).
FYI: if you have an XP-120 and you're getting bad temps than a possible cause could also be that there's too much pressure on the cpu from the heatsink (usually caused by overtightening the heatsink to it's retention mechanism). another possibility could be your voltage (now i did not look at your profile) but you would need to compute the C/W of your heatsink with your voltage to determine what your temps should theoretically be. if you can't google this process than i can explain it in more detail but somebody should have already written something like this. again there is also a margin of error in that computation because of the fan's dissipation of heat (they usually give you a C/W # with a certain CMF fan).
NOTE: it's been a while since i've done a computation like that so if my terminology is off then i apologize.
the xp-120 mounts by spring type tension, all are the same, thanks for your input.
i think it was the stick of ram in slot 2 blocking contact ever so slightly so i might sell the corsair after i have tested the replacements and buy some ocz, mushkin etc
any reccomendations on the best ram for around £150-200?
best performance, overclockability and quality is what ime looking for
