I'm currently running with an ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe, and am trying to get it to work with 3 SATA devices.

1 x WD Raptor

1 x Seagate Barracuda

1 x Plextor DVD (SATA)

I can currently get it working with any two drives on the SATA 1 and SATA 2 connectors on the motherboard. When I try and utilise the other SATA connectors the system will restart when the Windows loading screen should appear. The other connectors are labeled SATA_RAID but I have changed them to IDE in the BIOS, but it doesn't seem to make a difference...

Any ideas folks?

I dont really know much about SATA stuff, but are you running overclocked at the mo? Are all the ports on one bus?

My old Epox board had the SATA connectors on different buses... one (bus) was locked but the other wasnt, so any devices attached to the unlocked bus on an OC computer would make the disk fail the POST. (didnt happen to me... read it on a forum.)

Any use to ya?

Kenny

I'm running underclocked at the mo, have dropped the multi to keep things nice and cool while I play with it.

I have a feeling this board doesn't offer full support for 4 single SATA comnnections. I'm really starting to itch for an upgrade. Just got to wait for the next generation hardware and some cash then I'll be happy :)

sata ports 1 + 2 are on the intel ICH5R

sata raid ports 1 + 2 are on the promise PDC20378 raid controller

The manual states that the promise raid controller does not support atapi/cd-rom devices, only h/d's.It doesn't say about the intel, but i think it should,of course you'll need to redo your raid on the promise ports.

I'm not running RAID. I don't think it likes the SATA adapti device too much to be honest. Doesn't matter though, as I'll just run with what I have for now, until I get the upgrade fever :D

Good news boyo mindless to the rescue, im using a p4c800-e dlx with 3 soon to be 4 sata drives. for the fastrak controller it DOES NOT support anything else than hard drives and MUST be configured in a RAID array, but you can do it with 1 disk, i have, gotta rebuild it with a second disk in it. now the other controller doesnt have to be raided so just attatch stuff to it, make sure its got hte latest bios, i dont think the ICH5R supports anything else than hard drives either. havnt tried.
