P45 Overclocking...

Just a few hints about P45 Chipset Overclocking:

P45 chipset is made by 65nm process, P35 and 965 is by 90nm process. If you put high voltage on P45, the oc result will be worse not better.

for P45 OC, NB voltage can be left at default value if users are overclocking below 400MHz. for FSB 400-500Mhz maybe 1.3v is enough. 1.4v for 500mhz and above should be enough. anything higher than 1.4v could hamper the oc rather than help.

Also the CPU VTT value should be higher than NB voltage but not higher than 1v than NB voltage.

Thanks for that, I normally go nuts on the NB as some guys have been giving the Black Ops NB a spanking at 1.8v.

Is there any advise you can give on how to tweak the CPU GTL voltage ref and what to look for to see if it making an improvement.

I've got an E8500 I'm trying to get over the 600mhz barrier on a P5Q deluxe, limit so far on this mobo is 560mhz for me, my memory will do 670mhz. I've had the chip at about 580mhz benching but reboots at 590mhz on my modded Commando. I really not keen on these new options, it used to easy to overclock :D

Dave.

edit.. just ran single channel on the memory all on air (even cpu) and managed to get to 590mhz (6 multi).... need better memory, obviously these pc9200 reapers can't cut it even though they can go higher.

CPU GTL Reference Voltage is a settings that is mostly used in quad cores. This article that I came across a while ago explains this well, even though it is still difficult to understand.

I have some OC profiles configured by some extreme overclockers for some of the P5Q boards, I'll ask Jim to post them up as attachments :)

I've read that before, but I'm not into electronics so it's just noise to me, thanks anyway dude. I have had this mobo run my qx9650 at 510mhz with every thing set at auto.

That would be awesome VK. Thanks. :)

Attached is a .rar file containing overclock profiles for the P5Q-E and P5Q Deluxe

As always, these are used at your own choice and I accept no responsibility etc etc.

Great, thanks for that. :beerchug: will try them later.

Don't suppose you've got any profiles for the striker II extreme have you :D
