P4 3.4Ghz

Well as you will have read i think my 3ghz SL6WK isnt a particualrly good overclocked, i seem to max at about 3.725Mhz and my goal is over 4, so im thinking about a 3.4ghz P4, anyone know if these are particularly good overclockers?

Generally, but not always the case - the Malay retail P4's seem to be the best clockers by far - especially if you get a new stepping 30 "capper". I've had 16 P4's now and this Malay SL6WK is by far the best 3.0C I've ever used. It's rock solid at 4.2ghz. I had a 3.4 which would also do 4.2ghz stable but this would post right up to 4.8! I think it's the luck of the draw in most cases. You cant guarantee a good stepping.

i hear you phil, if it is the CPU that needs replacing thats fine, ill sell my old one, it does around the 3.7Ghz mark with 1.8V and adequate cooling fairly well, which is still a 700Mhz increase, might be great for some1 else, just not for me :P i need to try my hardest to make sure the next CPU is a good clocker as i cant afford to be wrong again, specialy wen they cost me £160+ a throw :P thats why im interested in buying ones off EP people coz i know they will clock nicely :)

the 3.4 chips seem to be the best clockers arround

They are all D1 stepping and have 30 caps.

they cost £300 so thats why i didnt touch one...its the price of 2 3.0Cs wo better get a few 3.0Cs that with a bit of luck will have a 3.4C core ;) in them and try again...

axer if youre not getting good contact then i am sure this will be limiting your clock too...

no good contact is high temps, cpu not cooled properly, lower overclock-bad stability

Yeah id love to get some reports in about 3.4's

That 17 multi's gotta be a killer, and if the reports are good then im there straight away, despite being on top of the pile with the sl6wu pile with 4.38

Im pretty smug about that :D but dont want to belittle my accolade with the 3dmarks until i get some water on my new NV40/9800XT :p The XT i had was pony n e way

(-edit- moggy, do you think that i may have a masquerading 3.4 already?)

Im gonna make a few posts around the web, see if some ones put one under a freezer

Im hearing you bwr, but i think its been aparant since day1 that my CPU is a bad clocker, i will play around tonight then im sending it to phil, im sure he will confirm it sux :P

i spoke to phil a while back and he said his 3.4 he had reached 4.1 :(
But that was probably b4 the vdroop mod which i think is a big issue for the p4c800

These chips dont like mroe than 1.8V, but with the droop done well that wont fluctuate lower than 1.75 with 2X prime

I think we should get some info together and make a sticky about it.

I bet there are masses of people pumping way too many V's @ their chips just to deal with the fluctuation

hmh from my experience all D1 chips love higher Vcore...

they are supposed to cope with 1.85V 24/7 no probs

I am testing my 2.8M0 at the mo with 1.7V...i think i am gonna push it up to 1.75V for 24/7 then... and 99% its the cpu i am keeping due to the lower multi than my 3.0C :)

dont wry bout me with contravening statements dude Im frequently wrong and dont mind being dissed ;)

the four chips ive had @ that stepping have never booted past 1.8, thought it was the norm...

but dude there’s a chip out there some where with a higher multi that will do the same fsb.. surely this is no time for safe bets! :p

wots this then?

Can't be bothered photographing it tonight, only had 3 1/2 hrs kip (and I ain't even got me GT yet! Prob won't sleep at all then :D )
