Overclocking Problems GIGABYTE 965P-S3, e6600

Hi there, I am running an e6600 with a GIGABYTE 965P-S3. For some reason I can't get the system to boot past about 300mhz FSB. I see alot of people getting 333mhz (3ghz) very easily, even with stock cooling so I am a bit confused. I have the latest bios.

What happens is that when i set the FSB past about 300, the motherboard goes into an on/off cycle about 3 times and then defaults the FSB setting (not any other settings). I HAVE had the system running 100% stable at 3GHz before idling at 30c, so this is not a cooling issue. It seems to be some wierd problem with my MOBO. Voltages are at stock, but it does the same thing regardless of the voltage.

My case has 6 120mm 80CFM fans running, as well as a 200mm exhaust fan, so there are no airflow issues here. The CPU has been lapped, and has a Scythe Ninja mounted on it.

Any ideas?

So i found out that it was the memory causing it. If i keep the memory as close to stock speed, the OC can go much higher.

On a related note, anyone have an issue with the core speed reading wrong? My boot screen and system panel say im at 3.6ghz, but cpu-z and my own math tell me i'm at 3.2

I've never had it that way round before. I've often seen software (especially Windows System Properties) report my speed wrong - but never the BIOS :\

I'm finding this ram issue kind of wierd, because i've had this RAM on another MOBO overclocked a good deal more.

It is OCZ Platinum DDR2 800 RAM, so it should overclock decently. Currently the ram doesn't want to go much higher than 830 mhz, which is odd. It wont even boot much past that, and is limiting my CPU overclock.

try divider 1:1 and set it at ddr 533 should allow you to oc more not using ram , with that divider you can reach 3.6 ghz sure

Turns out the memory is a little voltage hungry on this mobo. Bumping it to +.3 has enabled me to go higher. Sitting at a cool 3.44 ghz, and rising. Trying to find a good balance between temps and vcore currently.

Just to update, I've gotten past the memory issues, and managed to get up to about 3520mhz stable (so far, been about 2 hours with ORTHOS). I'm up around that 60c shelf at full load, so I think I'll stop here.

Time to look into some water cool to get my temps down enough to push this puppy a little further.
