Overclocking my new 780

Hello. I just got the MSI 780 Twin Frozr Gaming OC edition and I'm looking for any advice overclocking it.

I'm using EVGA Precision to OC it.

I did a Valley test at stock which gave me a score of 2549. I then did this...

Those settings bumped the score up to 2647.

Then I did this...

Which gave me a score of 2769.

Before I go any further I want to make sure I'm doing this right. The values I tried I just robbed from someone on the internet. Do the settings in the screenshots look right? As I understand it, the GPU should max out at 72 degrees and turn down the clocks to maintain that max temp.

Should I now slowly bump up each clock individually in increments of 10? How do I know when to stop? I don't want to break anything.

Any input is appreciated!

Well i've mucked around with my fan curve so that i keep the temps down a bit

I've currently got:

GPU offset: 227
Mem offset: 360

Giving me an overall of 1215 ish Mhz.

But this is with my power bar at 106% and i see yours is only going up to 103. not to sure how much of a difference that makes - 3% (guess it would just be giving you some headroom) Although that being said i can see from the Power % readout i'm only maxing out at 96 ish while folding.

You can mess with the voltages but you'd have to ask someone far more experienced in these matters than myself, as i just leave it to the slider ;p

It varies from card to card, much in the same way as CPU's as to how far you can go with it. i push mine much further and the gpu just has a spaz and the screen dies.

I wouldnt touch the volts, and tbh I think afterburner is easier to use with the power % and temperature target
 
Even putting up the volts to max within precisionx which the default is .75 is still well within Nvidias safety range and spec.

The GK104 core had a max voltage of 1.212v even with a BIOS mod. The card itself is limited in two ways, the power delivery and resistors being used. On a custom BIOS it's possible to crank it up from 1.175v to 1.212v but not beyond, this is because the voltage works in steps with anything higher than 1.212v exceeding the physical limitation implicated by the power delivery. There's a few hard-mods out there that require breaking off one of the rear resistors to the GPU, thus allowing slightly higher voltage. The first and not least problem is of course, the actual power draw - 75w (Thereabouts) from the PCI-E socket and [X] amount from the VGA cables. Non-reference cards solve this sometimes by adding dual 8-pin sockets on the PCB.

However the essence of the voltage limitation is to obviously reduce RMA cards, the ability is there to raise the voltage if an individual REALLY wants to, but without actually using one of em EVGA power boards, you're not going to damage the card even at full voltage on the stock BIOS.

This is why, aft 2010 period, people started raging because of the new limitations they added to overclocking...

So, if heat isn't an issue, IMO, crank that voltage all the way up and get overclocking!

I've had my Titans way past 1.212V! You can even ramp it up to 1.4V with BIOS mod and MSI Afterburner Beta now. I only run around 1.24V day to day on air, much higher isn't too good.

When I get my WC setup I'm hoping to hit 1300MHz core on them, seeing as I can hit 1200 on air.
 
My MSI gaming edition is set to +100 on the core which gives a max boost clock of 1150 and +600 on the memory giving 3602. Pushing the core any higher than 1150 results in driver crashes and lockups even if i push the voltage up from 1161mV up to 1200mV. I also cannot raise the power target beyond 103% in precision either. Not yet bothered to try the unlocked bios, bit too risky considering the cost of the card.
