overclock needed to stay alive, help!

my motherboard the asus p5nsli does not support 800 mhz ddr2!!! i know i couldnt believe it after i got it in the mail either. however when running in my compy, my 800mhz corsair xms2 sticks, it registers it and works at 800mhz.

very strange right?? :(

the sad part is, it really doesnt support it though because my ram sticks are too fast for this motherboard and constantly hangs, crashes, bluescreens, and blanks out. then suddenly, adding three points more voltage got it more stable, then messing with the frequency and timings, i got more stability.

i believe some people have gone through what i have before. and the reason i am here is because i cannot buy a new motherboard at this time (economy) and i have the overclocker mentality of keeping this board STABLE!!! =]

so does anybody know what are good settings for my ram sticks to run without crashing on me randomly? by stock, the times are 1gb each @ 5-5-5-12 @ 800mhz and this mobo only supports up to 667 ONLY, and it is whats specified by the specifications. but there has to be a way around it by correcting the memory settings the proper way! help please!

also, dual chan wont work for me either =\

mmm.. quite strange, as far as I know, it should run ok, although it'll be downclocked to 667. have you tried the latest BIOS for your Mobo? get the latest one, if you haven't, and try it on AUTO setting first, if it crashes, try to manually set to 667, it usually downclocked the RAM, and usually runs fine. if you're planning on pushing your chipsets to 800, be sure that the system airflow is good enough to keep the chipsets cool, if you don't wanna be toasted.

well, keep on tryin. good luck.

crashing have a lot of reason why so you should post more detail of your rig I think, I think it should be a problem with you 800Mhz ram with that board. Like ikan dugong said, fash your BIOS to the latest first and run some bechmark to check and memtset aswell.

thanks for the reply, my rig is as follows.

2x 1 gig corsair xms2 800mhz (mobo wont let me use both or even dual chan)

sata hard drive

radeon x800

the cpu mentioned earlier

the board mentioned earlier

latest bios (flashed before posting on this forum)

great air cooling. heat is no problem.

currently my computer is running the sticks at 800 mhz without even changing any settings. even downclocking to 667 gives me the same problems. only thing that helped was upping the ddr voltage to max which isnt that much anwyays. one thing i DO wonder that it could be the problem, would be the timing settings. and thats the thing im super noob at.

any other suggestions? thanks!

I think my Asus P5N32-SLI Premium has the same problem. It only supports 800(OC),667 etc. The OC part wasn't in the spec when I bought it and didn't understand it.

I can only get 2 gb working dual channel but going upto 4gb makes the bios go weird and crashes, even with setting the voltages and timings to the correct ones.

Cutting to the chase, I got it stable in the end by looking in CPU-Z at the different profiles for the RAM, writing it down and setting it manually in the BIOS. (4-4-4-12 2T 2.1v is what it is meant to be on my ram, in the end the most stable was slighly off the standard at 8-8-8-12 2T 2.1v)

what should my timings be set at?!!! i cant seem to make it stop crashing until i change the memory timings. :(
