Generally speaking warranty is based off quality whenever you get a warranty that's longer than 5 years(seems to be the case from what i've seen). No company would give a 10 year warranty if they knew it would probably only last 5 years. They'd be losing money. In addition, it shows they have confidence in the quality of there product. It just shows consumers they are selling a quality product that can be pushed to its limits for 10 years. Besides it's Corsair, while I don't particularly like them all that much, i've had experience with there RMA/warranty service before and it's top notch. That should also influence that this warranty actually means something.
You are just basing it on what you have seen rather instead looking at the quality of the product. Don't forget that a bad PSU can destroy an entire build of which will NOT be covered by the PSU warranty. And of course a company can and will do that. If a company realizes that the average person will replace a certain piece after say 2 years for an upgrade and offer a 10 year warranty to make their product look good knowing it wont last near that long is a GREAT tool into tricking someone. It is done ALL the time, example being XFX when they had (and they might still have it) their DOUBLE lifetime warranty. Do you honestly believe a GPU will last 2 generations worth of people? And referring back to my BFG PSU, it had a LIFETIME warranty and it stopped working a year after BFG went under. Certainly didn't last a lifetime.
Corsair for a lot of their higher end stuff were and might still be built by Seasonic which is a VERY VERY reputable PSU manufacturer.
Lastly the ROI of a say $200 - $300 PSU over the course of 3 to 4 years is SOOOOO small it really isn't even worth looking into a warranty for. And when you take into account technological advancements over the course of those 3 to 4 years the ROI is even worse. Would you really want a PSU that is 4 years old in your system?
Point being when it comes to computers, anything beyond 2 to 3 years is retarded and is just marketing. The manufacturer know the VAST majority of people will NEVER use it not because they thing the product reliable, more so that people will be upgrading them.
