Opinion on Headphones or Headsets and Sound cards.

I have the DT990s (used to have the DT770s), and they are really awesome headphones.

I've never used the AKG702s, but they are quite a lot more expensive than the Beyerdynamic ranges, and from what I've heard, the DTs are far more comfortable than the AKGs.

It'll probably depend what you do most really, I'm not really a gamer so can't comment on that front, but from my own experience with music, I wouldn't recommend anything other than the DT770s/990s.

That's interesting, they must be a newer version of the K702, the headrest part is different the 'uncomfortable' (I find them very comfortable but again, that's personal preference) little notches of foam aren't there on the images.

I'm sure it can upmix to virtual 7.1 with the standard drivers anyway can't it?

I will look into this :)

It can do virtual with the standard drivers but the STX can only do 2.1 through the RCA. If you have 5.1 or 7.1 speakers you can get proper 5.1 or 7.1. At least it works for my set up anyway, which is 5.1.

The Uni drivers are a lot better than the normal Asus ones though. The sound I got from the Asus drivers sounded kind of dull and I was having latency probs with some films and TV shows I downloaded.
The uni drivers sorted the latency issues out and they seem to produce better sound, in my opinion anyway.

If i buy the Essence STX and later on acquire a Corsair SP2500, ill have to buy other sound card or it'll work just fine in the STX ?!

AH through the RCA, see I'm only using mine onto some Bose 2.1's so I hadn't noticed that. :)

Which setup did you use for the UNI drivers? i saw 3 different versions last time I looked?

I used this one, but I ran it again after with the low DCP latency ticked instead of the C-Media panel. Wan't sure if it installed the C-Media Panel by just installing the DCP option so I installed it first to to be sure.

Also make sure you run the install as admin or it causes driver signature errors.

SP2500s will work fine with the STX.

does the upmix, upmix *everything* or can it be changed to stereo using the control panel thingy?

I think it does everything, my speakers are 5.1 so i'm not sure how it works on 2.1 speakers. Best just to try it to be honest.

Guys, i think i have decided myself. Almost sure that i'll pick an Asus Essence STX and DT 990 Pro 250Ohms. :D
The last thing i have to be sure that with this headphone i'll perform well in games.

And want to say thank you for everyone that helped me decide my new sound setup. :)

That is an awesome combo.

And it will surely perform better than you could expect if you haven't really gotten into hi-fi headphones. It also ridicules all the "gaming" headphones.

It'l be good for games, but my research made me get the AKG's over them for better accuracy of sound etc..

Depends on what you want, really. You could get a desk mic or a clip-on. Zalman ZM-MIC1 is a decent option, for example.
