Opinion on Headphones or Headsets and Sound cards.

Hello guys, i'm interested in buying some new pair of headphones and a sound card to take my experience to a next level.

In the moment i'm using the Razer Megalodon and after using them i feel they don't deliver the best sound experience.
Honestly i'm not the best person to notice if the sound is good or not, but i'm hoping that with some help of you guys i can change my idea of what is a good sound. :)

So what for you is a good sound setup for my rig ? First of all i really want to get a new headset or even a headphone with mic separate if thats the best way to go.
And later on i would buy a sound card.

Leave me your thoughts on the best setup for gaming, movies and music, but most of all, games. Or if you think its better to get the sound card first, say it. I really want to hear what you think.

Thank you from now. And sorry for my bad english.

Not sure how much I want to spend. But if the headphones are really good and last a long time without the need of improvement I would pay them US$400 without problems. And I'd rather pay a high price for something really good than buying several things with the same investment and be rubbish. And keep in mind that I will not buy it all at once, simply because I do not have a huge amount to spend at once.

I was looking at sound cards like the Asus Essence ST and STX. But i dont know the real diference between them and if one is better for headphones or speakers, because i want a sound card that is good for both.

I believe the STX is 7.1 and the other is not.. as well the PRO pushes out 250 OHMS. Which if you are going to buy the STX, I suggest going for the PRO.

ST is PCI and STX is PCI Express. I think apart from that they are identical.

Stx is only 2.1 and ya Dt 990s or DT 770s will be good for you mixed with this sound card. DT770s are closed headphones which mean no air will pass through the earcups so all the sound stays in and no one else can hear what you are listening to, the negative efffect that has is your ears may sweat and it won't sound natural do to the air not being able to carry the sound waves. DT 990's are basically a Dt770 but vice versa from them.

ST/STX outputs two channels but simulates surround.

If that's your budget I'd be looking at a Xonar Essence STX and either Some Beyerdynamic DT770's for closed back or 990s for open back, if you like warmer sounds, I personally use AKG K702's for a sharper, more accurate reference sound but that' my personal preference.

Ohmage doesn't really matter as the STX will drive either of them.

Word of advice: whatever you buy in this kind of range will be LEAGUES better than the razer megaladon. When I tried the megaladon it felt muddy, closed in and very unclear in things like Battlefield. Like you had your head in a bucket most of the time... not pleasant at all

Not in the case of DT-770 unless you are a particularly sweaty person. :D

Hence why i said "may" sweat^_^

Any of these headphones mentioned in this post are all worth the money. The differences in sound reproduction quality all depend upon you and your ability to pick out the tiny differences. Not all people can tell(except sub:p)

It's all about personal taste, I chose the AKG's for accuracy and rapport positioning of sound in games, they are pretty much second to none for that, very nice wide open sound field and very crisp and clear.

DT770's DT990's are more for the music listeners and are a littler bassier/warmer, that's not to say the AKG's are not good for music, once you break them in they have a beautiful sound :)

Head-fi has a nice collection of decent headphones. The website has nice amount of reviews for more popular models which should give a decent idea of the sound characteristics.

I'm not sure I'd buy closed-back cans for gaming if possible, if you use a mic you end up shouting quite a bit as you don't hear yourself very well.

If it's gaming I definitely recommend AKG's :)

So anyone knows a good shop in europe to buy this Akg702 ? I'm going to ship to Portugal.
And now i dont know if ill pick the DT 990 or this AKG 702...
For sound card i'm gonna be ok the essence STX ? Even if i plug speakers in it ?!

And thanks for the attention guys! :)

Amazon has them. Can they ship to you? And yes, definitely pair either of these with an Essence STX
