Lots of people seem to have this prob lately.
Try typing msconfig into the start menu, press enter to load it, choose the boot tab then select advanced options. In the top right there is a box that says Maximum Memory, check the box and then change it to 6144mb if it isn't already. You will need to reset before it will work.
Someone else with a Rampage also made a thread with this problem but their problem was only 4gb showing in the BIOS. You are using 64 bit Windows as well so it should definietly recognize more than 4gb RAM, strange.
I just reset the cmos and booted into windows still showing only 4GB, could it foulty ram or motherboard slot. Its weird, yesterday was fine.
actually, anything else over than winX64 (or winServer), will only recognise 3GB.
if BIOS says 4GB, then windows will not get a better result
problem solving:
- is the mobo dual or triple channel
- are the ram modules matched (ie: are complete sets (x2 or x3))
triple channel memory will NOT work on dual channel slots.... triple channel memory on a dual channel mobo will revert the memory to dual channel and you will loose one module. i think this may be your problem
....I done this but it only showing 4095mb....
why 4095mb? it should be 4096!!!
or was that a typo?
try mixing up the ram in different slots - if you still get problems, then it is your mobo that is to blame![]()
Could it be that windows 32bit only recognises 4 gig?
i took the ram back out and put them in different slots then before and now the bios does recognize 6GB.
When i right click my computer and click on properties it shows 6.00GB(4.99GB usable)
I dont think this is supposed to be there, before the problem also it said was 6.00GB
When i tried setting the maximum memory in msconfig, it told me to restart so i did and now when i got to msconfig again it shows 2048MB :S
Is it supposed to do this
It shouldn't do that it should say 6144mb for 6gb. Try setting it to 6144mb and restarting again.
this reason that windows reports only 4.99Gb as usable is your gpu (or the supplied sound card) is probably using 1gb of it
