Onboard Sound OK for 5.1

Hi Guys

I have just realised my soundcard (Creative X-fi) has died or is dying, as I have 5.1 speakers and my centre speaker doesn't work, tried everything, changed cables etc, so I turn onboard sound on, plugged everything in and everything is working fine, guessing something is wrong with the centre speaker connection on the soundcard.

Is onboard sound ok, or should I invest in another soundcard??

i use my onboard and its done a good job for me, but i aint no audiophile or that but it does what it needs and i think it sounds good, i have logitech x-540's

If you only have a Z5500 then on board audio is fine, although with a nice sound card you could make that massive sub shine. or if you want you could invest in an AMP which would REALLY make it shine!

I would say the onboard will be just fine. If you do feel like the sound level decreased by using the onboard you can always just buy a seperate soundcard, but if you don't hear a difference in the first place, there is no point on getting one.

Yes you should be able to. A nice receiver, but those can be big and cumbersome. If you had to buy an AMP for this what world you get, would just like to know what sort.

For my main rig i use this http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=ZBWhAEnH6nDOB00E&templete=2 i HIGHLY recommend this.

and any 5.1/7.1 receiver with an analogue input would work fine, you would need to get some converters to convert the jacks on the back of the receiver to 3.5mm jacks. i suggest just getting a nice sound card. that way its in your computer and takes less space.
