Gonna keep it short lol...

Mate had a problem with his PC and he has been asking me to fix it over the few days but not had time. I went round yesterday and fixed it :P, he said he would pay me but I'm generous and said no. He had an old PC lying about with HD missing... I said I'll have that cuz he was going to throw it out.

I took it and don't know what I should use it for?, don't know the specs yet but it has 512mb of ram and some sort of AMD processor lol.

I will probably update some little bits.

Burning ISO of XPLITE to disc to use on it, anyone got suggestions on what to use it for?

NOT SERVER PLZ :) GOT 1.

Thank you :).

Was thinking of doing that actually :), I did it quickly before to see about what it's like. Didn't mind doing it on my desktop PC :P.

Also specs are

AMD Ahtlon 1700+

512 RAM (got another gig or so here)

and NVIDIA 5500fx

40gb HD that I popped in lol.

Any other ideas?

To play old lan games? Make it into a hardware firewall/router? More storage for a server? A jukebox for parties? errrr

Sell it on? (I did)

Run and mess around with linux (ubuntu or something productive like that)

linux/unix iptables/ipchains firewall/router, maybe with a transparent caching proxy

run cisco simulator/emulator software to learn (handy for CCNA etc)

I had a celeron running as a firewall/router/proxy ages ago :) did the job ok and I learned a lot about iptables etc. I have since replaced it with a WRT-54G with custom firmware tho :D

What exactly is MAME? I just seen a disc downstairs labeled MAME :P...

I think it's some sort of emulator

EDIT... Just got disc and it has a lot of stuff on it lol, my dad has way too many discs lol.

I may see a little project coming along... with an old N64?? or atari if I can get 1 for cheap from game or something :P.

What O/S shall I run on it?? I have discs for nearly all O/S available including Linux distros...

XPSP2 is often enough for these things.

Wiki MAME I would have thought by now. Get uself a nice old fashioned 9-pin joystick/unit and a usb adaptor.

(God I gotta get around to doing this)

I would of used wiki but my internet was not responding and this page was loaded already lol.

> Downloading CSS ;p <

Hehe being 17 not had experience of old fashioned games apart from Atari emulator :D, but I'm here to learn lol.

I will send you a PM of all the games that I have on the disc :P, too many... If you want I can send you roms??

It is a brilliant thing to do with a free PC

Rast: Me too, i've been wanting an emulator box for a couple of years now. I mean you can even emulate PS2 games...

I really need to get a job. This will probably be where my first pay cheque goes. Actually I think there might be a suitably old PC at home. Reapropriation time.

Youngie: Post your steam name in the new CSS thread. HERE

Edit: i have added you. Should be Pseudonym.

Thank you :), will use the tag in my name and I'll add you right now :).

Looking online for some old arcade type box for a case lol.

You like any DOS games? If so you can put 98SE on it and run DOS games with it if it has a 2x/4x AGP slot. Seems you got something else going on. When running emulators like ePSXe, PJ64, ZSNES ect its best to do it on your faster machine.
