Ok im gonna need lots of help on this one. I can get ahold of a copy of Windows Server 2003 or w/e it is and i currently have XP Pro Corp. We (as in my friend and i) have a server thats

PIII 1gig

512mb PC133

30gig ATA133hd

80gig ATA100hd

DVD burner

Intel Mobo

4X AGP TNT2

Really all its used for is dedicated gaming and file sharing. We use DC++ at LANs to distribute patches that weve downloaded and all and have YnHub. I dont know how to use YnHub though.

Ok my question here is, would it be better to use the XP Pro i know how to use, or use Windows Server? I cant use Linux or anything like that cause none of us know how to use Linux.

Also, does anybody know how to use YnHub so i can have my LAN mates connect to my server through DC++? Im a n00b at this whole server thing but i thikn it would be even better if i could take full advantage over it. I believe anybody will agree that Windows file sharing isnt the greatest and is slow:sleep: Any thoughts?

Without even reading the above i'm gonna say 2k3. It's much better than XP, much more stable and runs everything that XP will (including games).

It needs tweakign after install tho - so let us know if u go ahead with it.

it allows alot more concurrent connections than XP Do you have to use DC to distribute the files. cant you just make a windows share or something and allow everyone access.

all they would need to do, is start > run and type //ipnumberhere

We use DC cause its more stable and faster and i JUST got YnHub to work on our server. I was playing with it and then it magicaly worked some how. Soo im probably sticking with this until i get my copy of 2003. I will then install it onto another HD and see if my Hub settings work with it. For now though its late for me (4:30 in the morning) so im off to bed. Ill probably get my copy tomorrow and install to see if i can do it. Thanks Dav0s for the nifty guide.

It almost runs everything XP will, I've run in to a few apps that won't install on 2k3. But 2k3 is definately by far the best choice you could make. I can't stand XP.

Ok i got 2003 installed last night, used that guide and said no sir. It was fine and everything was cool until i couldnt get into my net machine (which has all important drivers ect) from it. Usualy its just \\*my computer name* but it was saying i didnt have permision yada, same for my PC to it. I said screw it i will deal with it later.

is it still on the same ip range? Say 192.168.0.*

also check to see if any roles have been created, ifso go through the process of removing them.

Ok i played with it and the workgroup is the same and all computers on my network have the same IP range. Only difference is of course the last digit. Still wont let me get into either computer by hitting run //*ect*
