You heard it right, the largest bit torrent tracker in existence has been taken offline today. Oink.cd, formerly Oink.me.uk has been shut down by the feds, and the sites Admin has been arrested and released after having his and his fathers home raided. All of the Oink servers have been seized and an investigation is under way in to the identities and activities of the sites users (you and I).

I wish the best to the sites admin and hope that he sees the light of day, and maybe one day that we see the return of Oink, the greatest tracker of all time.

With tv-links being shut down as well, i guess everyone will stop being copyright pirate then.

You think they'd find something better to do.

Yeah heard about this on the radio yesterday. I imagine the authorities will have a big job on their hands if they plan to go after all the people that used the site

Where they take one down another 20 will appear. Its kinda the nature of the internet...

Yep. I remember when they took down Napster. Its not like that made even the most tiny dent in peoples file-sharing abilities.

Infact I think it bought the availability of free file sharing to the attention of the general public in a big way lol

Yeah very true. It pretty much paved the way for new P2P apps like Limewire, Shareaza and Torrenting.

Demonoid.com got hit a couple of weeks ago aswell but they didnt track down the admin just told the ISP to stop hosting the server. So all they did was move the server to another country.

I hope they don't :|

How can they stop tv-links tho? =/

Start catching terrorists and murderers - there will always be pirating of like...everything. Its human nature to get something cheap/free especially when its overpriced.

I thought that private trackers where a bit more secure than public as they cannot trace users as easily? They arent seriously going to prosecute all those that used it?

I seriously doubt they will. The cost of an operation like that would far outweigh the gains. I wouldnt be surprised if they went after the biggest users though in order to make an example

I Think he was going to sign up for downloads of the new unsigned promising bands that have uploaded their torrents to that site
