Oh No!

I woke up this morning, turned on the screen of my P4 and nothing ... i could hear the system sounded ok so naturally i opened the case, the gfx card, CPU and system fans were all spinining. I turned off the PC and gave it a cpl of mins to do a full spin down. I tried again, everything sounded like it should i also think the HDD was acessing, but cant be sure as the PC is noisy anyway.

Next thing i did was put a PCI graphics card in (gotta love the old PCI cards :P) it didnt make any difference tho i didn't bother to take out the 9800. Also i dont think its the monitor as my TV (plugged into the S-video) was getting no signal either. I didnt have much chance to do anything else as I had about 15mins before i had to go to work (woke up late trying to bid on a mobile XP 2500 which i didnt even win!)

Any suggestions would be great accepted!

DOH!!! does not look good.. OK

From the top... Err..

I am guessing that you dont have a prommie or any watercooling on this PC

Unplug your HDD's, CD-Rom, FDD & keep them out for the mo. Reseat your ram and graphics card and take out any other cards that you have in, so all you have is your CPU, Ram & 9800 and then boot and see what you get.

Do you have an internal speaker plugged in?? If so does it beep????

if that fails try another Graphics card and memory..

Whats your PC Spec?

bit of a problem with the speaker, it was annoyingly loud so i pulled the cables out, might be able to resolder them tho.

And nah i dont have prommie/water cooling just stock HSF, but saying that before everything went tits up i was only at 3.45ghz @ 1.6V

my spec is:

P4 3ghz @ 3.45 (1.6V)

Asus P4C800-E Deluxe

ATi Rad 9800

1gig Geil PLatinum Ultra

Maxtor SATA 120GB HDD

NEC 8x DVDRW

When i get home ill have a good scrumage arround, does the the P4C800-E Deluxe have a bios battery? I must admit I havent noticed. I really didnt want to come to work today i wanted to fix my PC :P good job i have my server on the same desk :P

Thx Epicurus!

EDIT: I just had a thought, if i left my AGP gfx card in, wouldnt it try boot of that as default as in bios AGP is set to be priorities over PCI, think i shud remove the AGP. Damn i hope my gfx card aint dead that would suck!

I think that you can set in the BIOS which it boots from AGP or PCI. most are set to AGP now..

you might need to take out your 9800 in order for the PCI card to work..

I had the same problem the other week. Power on, the fans came on but that was it.

Might sound daft, but swap your power cable from your base unit with the monitor one if you can.. I have had a few PC's at work not power on and to check that the power cable was OK I swapped them over and then they powered up.. Strange... but true..

hey anythings worth a bash, im hoping not but it seems to me like my 9800 is R.I.P if thats the case im gonna need to buy another 9800/9700 Pro becoz even wen i get my 6800U/800XT i need a good gfx card to replace with the one in my spare gaming box. :(

Nothing much new here, but I’ll say anyhow.

Take it all out and place on a table just ram PCI video card and CPU in the mobo, get the speaker sorted.

Fans starting = system getting power so cable and power supply should be working.

As stated in another post, you need to remove the AGP card for it to look for a PCI.

Do the keyboard lights all flash when you try to boot up? If you do try holding down insert when you boot up, that will load default BIOS values for that boot up.

Try resetting the CMOS with the jumper.

Don’t panic, it might very well be something silly like a broken monitor cable or something.

yeah the keyboard lights come on thats why it seems that things work, i doubt its the monitor tho as my svideo is plugged into the TV and that picks up no signal either :( usually that boots straight up wen i turn the PC on!

will do. im pushed for time now lol, im selling the CPU from my server to a relative (XP 2500 runs at 3200 with no problems, only 2 months old) and unless i can find a nice XP-M to stick in that sharpish i may be with out a computer to work on entirely if my main P4 isnt fixed! :( i havent been without my server for years either, has all my movies and games on it. Oh well :P

lol, hopefully a bank owner will give me some cash too :P im bored oif having to put of my prommy to fix things, i wanna get it ! but if i have to replace my vid card thats gonna put a dent in my pocket!

so if on the news tonight I see that a bank was robbed for a few grand and then Phil gets an order for a GT its not going to be you then..

as i feared, my 4month old 9800Pro is dead, i always thought it was crap compared to other 9800's :(

Im looking for a second hand 9700 Pro / 9800 Pro or somthing like this, as i need a reasonable ammount of power till i get my next gen card.

Ill raised a "wtd" request in a sec
