OCZ prepares 4gb of ram

Inquirer reports

RYAN Petersen the cool CEO of OCZ technology, confirmed that the company is preparing to ship 4GB memory kits (2x2GB) shortly before Microsoft Vista shows up. Those guys do believe that you will need at least 2GB of memory for the good gaming experience on Vista.

That kind of confirms out story about vista and the gaming. You can read about that here and we also think that you will need at least 2GB to be happy.

Nevertheless the games will of course work even with 1024 MB memory and we can bet that people will run Vista with 512 MB but we are talking about the comfortable experience. Ryan also confirmed that they are excited about vista as the people will simply need more memory. What can make the memory guy happier than the sudden demand for its product?

Those guys are already selling 2 GB memory kits that quite a few gamers picked up already and those guys are sure that these guys will want to get to 4 GB with vista. Don’t think you will need 4 GB but many people that like to show off with their SLI / Crossfire machines will sure buy one. That is the not so far away future, and I can still remember giving away some serious money to buy an extra 64 MB module to play Shogo. That was just about eight years ago. µ

Fingers crossed there mate be interesting to see what the memory timings will be like, hopefully they will be like the 1gb sticks.

Well they are OCZ and gaming RAM so one suspects they will at least be DDR800, but DDR1000 would be preferred.

Either way, if what they are saying is true and we do need 4GB of DDR2 RAM to play games on Vista (I am not convinced you do unlss ur rig sufferes in other areas) - it's even more reason to put off using it.

Allowing the market to be saturated with 2GB sticks before making the leap at least allows the proucts to be purchased at a decent price point and hopefully be more performance orientated than the 1st releases will be.

im holding off, i borrowed a mates 1gb set to make mine 2gb for a couple of weeks and noticed no improvement whatsoever, and if there was any it was soo minimal it never even registerted, could have been down to 4 x 512 sticks causin me to run at 2T

You get more of a bonus using 2gb in applications than you do in games, although intensive games like BF2 fully utilise 2gb. Here I am with 512mb in XP Pro :)

i wasnt playing many games when i had 2gb as i had a ****ty gfx card, but i dont use enough memory hungry apps to fully utilise it. same with my old x2 it was super fast at extracting things but suffered in games alot versus my venice at 2.8 w/ x800xl versus x2 3800 w/ bfg 7800gtx and the bfg was only running at 1024x768 with everything on... very disappointing!!! im gonna save me pennies now :P (heres hoping with the student loan in tomorrw) arghhhhhhhhhh

Pffft already got 4gb 8)

Oh and for the guys here that say it's not worth it try loading up photoshop and doing a 8,000 layer picture with 1gb or try 3dsmax rendering. There is more to pc's than gaming remember guys. All i'm saying is my 4gb makes a huge difference to the things *I* do.

Oh and just for the record the ram is still clockable (despite rumours that 4x1gb sticks gets you knowhere) got mine running at 272mhz 1:1! :D

Well I have no idea what all that meant reference photoshop - but it sounds impressive lol.

4GB at 2t and 272mhz :O amazing - what ram is it (HZ, ZX, HB?) I bet it handles the CPC benchies than a mere 2x512MB can?

If it does might give it a go - I am determined to break 2.15 on CPC with my current board and CPU.
