OC3D VR Owners Thread

Its still worth the wait.

Furthermore... noob me never realised that the grips them selves count as a button when you squeeze, there is a noticeable click and depending on game, minor vibration and also the touch pad when you press down has a click to function as a button.

Unless you have giant hands, dont waste your time using these 3d printed grip extenders because it doesnt feel as good. People only use them to reach the menu button but I never saw a point.

Oh don't get me wrong I am immensely looking forward to them but I need them now !!!!! :D

If you ever manage to get a VR HMD, You can come join us in games like Star Trek Bridge Crew, Seriously good fun :)

On a side note I just got this, It's a stand for my Index controllers, A magnetic USBC gizmo attaches to the controllers at all times and the magnetic receiver sits in the base of the dock so no wear and tear, Still looking for some reputable magnetic typc c cables though.

Well after the GPU upgrade VR will be next on the wish list, but index tbh is out of my reach being realistic and oculus is pretty much a no go for me i really don't like the idea of it being attached to another account let alone facebook.

So maybe the Vive series is something to look into more, but VR is still early days and so maybe by the time im ready there will be some new toys out at even better prices, we'll see.

Well people hate the cosmos, but I thought it was a good one. The controllers arent as good and battery life sucks (so get some rechargables) however the head unit is great. I found it really comfortable.

Probably get a really good deal on it pre owned

There is a sea of 2nd hand VR on ebay, but i'd prefer new tbh all depends on how much i really want one after i have a new card, but it's really only for half life. With so many VR headsets having been sold now i'd expect a lot more games soon and if it really starts to gain mainstream traction it would push me towards one faster.

I would be very careful mate.

I bought a supposedly nearly new PSVR headset on Ebay. It was nearly new alright, but let's say whoever owned it liked curry. Not only did it absolutely stink but it was so bad when I wore it the capsaicin actually made my eyes water. I cleaned it several times with lemon scented wipes but it still minged.

I've not been able to use it much, and no doubt had I started a dispute I would have been called racist or something.

TBH? I wouldn't buy another one used. Not from any one.

I feel new is better with things like this i mean i don't buy 2nd hand clothes kinda same thing really, but i'd just feel better knowing it's fresh and has a warranty and such cause the VR in general isn't cheap i looked at the vive's and they are like 600 kinda hope prices drop a little, thou if the Index with controllers and stations was 600-700 i'd not mind that kind of price really.

I take personal hygeine very seriously and always have (very fussy mother and besides I can't stand human smells) and I would never ever sell the Grado headphones I have. They have a brown leather head band and it's absolutely vile looking. And I shower every single day. The sweat from my head though has made it look revolting.

I have an autistic friend who won't buy anything used. Nothing. I offered him a phone I used twice for free and he turned me down saying I had touched it.

TBH? I would feel funny about selling my VR headset too. I won't lie I sweat like a pig with that thing on. The PSVR has a rubber mask thing, but the Oculus has foam. Eww.

I mentioned this in another thread but not this one as I was very busy. I like the Rift S. However. HL Alyx is a full blown game. Not just another VR experience you pick up and wave your arms around like a bellend for 30 mins or so. As such when I took the headset off I had the screen door burned into my eyes. You know how if you look at a light bulb in the dark and it stains your vision? well I got that, only tiny little dots. It was really freaky tbh and I didn't like it. I mean, I did put in nearly three hours that session but I wasn't expecting that.

My vision changed last year and I now need two pairs of glasses. Maybe the close up ones for using my PC would be better? IDK. However, it's not something I want to continually do to my eyes, given that until I was 20 I never needed glasses and only started needing them when I spent too many hours staring at the TV playing video games stoned out of my nut.

IF, And this is a big IF, If Facebook decide you don't actually NEED a Facebook account for the Quest 2 then you could get that, A completely standalone HMD that can connect to your PC via a USB Type C cable to play PCVR, Obviously you still need the PC horsepower for PCVR, But this would be a relatively cheap and effective way into VR, £399 for the 256GB version.

I also would never get pre-owned VR gear unless it was from someone I knew was a clean freak like myself ^_^

Few reviews out now of the new Quest 2, Most honest reviewers are not recommending it, The Facebook requirement seems to be the icing on the cake for not recommending it.

This part of the review I found incredibly creepy -

Facebook Venues' beta includes a notice that the app, at all times for all users, performs a "rolling recording" of everything you see, say, and do within VR, so that you can tap a button to upload that footage and report other users' behaviour.
Another VERY creepy segment of the review -

"Even worse, if someone "near" you in an official Facebook VR space blocks or reports a user, even if you're just minding your own business, your behaviour (including motions and speech) may be tracked by these same silent, invisible Facebook moderators. That data can be stored on Facebook's servers indefinitely without you being notified."
Zuckerturd has gone the full voyeurism route, What an utterly creepy creepy little man.

Something I find very worrying is a lot of people on places like Reddit are defending this, Saying it's ok to be spied on 24/7, Utterly insane.

The reviews I watched recommended it, but all pointed out the caveat of needing a FB account which they all thought was bad, I wonder if I can use 1 of my many fake accounts.
What made me lol was they all raved about the £299 price, complained the head strap was uncomfortable and to buy the £49 elite which negates the saving off the original Quest, or there's the £119 battery pack elite.
It's supposedly got a higher resolution than the index and capable of 90hz

TBH higher resolution means bupkis when they are displaying low poly images using in essence a Snap Dragon 865 and the reason the price is £299 i.e fairly low, Is because you are the product, The amount of data harvesting Facebook will be doing with this will be off the charts.

Oculus anything is a no go that is not right but tbh not unexpected it's what they have been getting upto the whole time.

They haven't worked out how to use it as just a screen when playing games through link so it still compresses and decompresses in the headset, wonder how hard it would be to put a display port in
