OC3D VR Owners Thread

Just make a basic FB account, Put in real info with your name, DOB etc... You don't need to use a photo of yourself, Just use a black square, Don't add friends or like pages, This way you can still access Oculus with Revive but not have to bother that much with Facebook outside of logging into Oculus, It's what I've done purely for games like Stormlands.

You can't use a black square. I did that and Facebook demanded I upload a photo of myself or they would close my account. They apparently use it to check your age etc (so they know what ads to bomb you with no doubt).

That is where this pic came from.

Well I'm using a black square right now and it's been there for a while with no issues, They generally only flag accounts to be checked that like a lot of pages, Comment on lots of things, I have the tiniest amount of activity on mine, Tell friends to get on Discord, Logging in, No comments or likes on anything, Nothing else.

Mine has a picture of my son when he was 4, and so many have pictures of dogs or cats etc so for age verification I'm 4 and have a black and white corgi as an aunty

Guy on Reddit has a 3090 and is testing Half Life Alyx, With max settings and 1.5x super sampling he's getting an average of 88FPS and just over 20GB of VRAM usage, With 1.0 x SS he can maintain 144FPS pretty well and VRAM usage goes down to around 14GB.

Those 3080's equipped with 10GB of VRAM sure are looking a little limited ^_^

It was when I first opened it dude. My ex wife "made" me delete all social media apps and etc. So when I chucked her out I opened another one.

My account with personal info edited out, I'd say nearly every single person on my friends list, 53 of them, Have got either their pets, A random location or just a solid colour as their profile pic, More people are doing it for privacy reasons.

That should be tested with a 3080, memory allocation isn't a good metric. I should be able to do exactly that in a few weeks.

Sony just patented some new VR control designs that look very very similar to valve index

https://www.roadtovr.com/sony-vr-controller-patent-valve-index/

Im all for it! the knuckles are so good they should be the new standard of excellence much like the original Rift. If all VR headsets had controls like this, it would push us towards better finger tracking, since the index is close to mastering that already.

Saw a video that they've also patented a outside tracking headset so quest with index controllers best of both worlds if they can master the wireless connection with out losing quality

Interesting times ahead for VR.

My biggest concern is that FB with the quest will dominate the market and glorified mobile games will be the best you get for VR, Though I do like the quest and being cabal free battery life becomes a very limiting factor when it comes high resolution and refresh rates

That has me worried too. I want the hardware to push boundaries and get more AAA VR games like HL:Alyx.

The trouble with Facebook HMD's is you need to login to Facebook, Privacy issues aside, The problem with this is there are a lot of people reporting on Reddit and various other places that their newly made FB accounts, Getting ready for their pre-ordered Quest 2's, Are being permanently banned with zero reason as to why within minutes of them being created, And these are people with no prior FB account.

Facebook needs to rethink this mandatory social media account requirement as their account banning systems are a shambles.

When they say you can get banned, I'd like to know more on what's bannable, considering they say you can be watched invisibly, couple of mates playing and the person watching invisibly gets offended, or does somebody there have to make a complaint

The way it works is someone in your vicinity, Someone you may not even know, Can report you if you have committed the high crime of offending them by joking with eachother or having a different opinion on something, Even if this person is rudely eavesdropping, From that point on everyone in your group including you is tagged and monitored, An actual human, Invisible to the group, After a while, Stands there and can listen in on the conversation, Text messages sent etc... and if they think you have committed the crime of wrong think you can and will be suspended or banned.

There have already been reports of people in the closed Horizons beta being taken out of it for making harmless jokes to eachother privately but some invisible activist mods at Facebook found it offensive so "cancelled" them.

Facebook from the very top to the very bottom needs a reshuffle, As it is right now the company is a haven for some truly loopy people.

See I don't care if I can't play Horizon as i'm not going to anyway, but if I lose all access to my library that's different

It's not just Horizons, Any multiplayer game that is in an environment connected through Oculus that has a shared space with other people is potentially dangerous as the same thing can happen there and you won't just lose access to your software library, The unique hardware ID of your HMD is tied to your now linked FB account, If you get suspended or banned for wrong think your £300/$300 piece of hardware is now an expensive paperweight.

As I said Facebook from top to bottom needs a reshuffle, Which is not happening anytime soon but in the short term they need to get rid of the social media account requirement.
