Welcome to the OC3D Home Sever Thread!

In recent days there's been an increase on the forum of people with home
servers and looking to invest in home servers. This thread is for talking about
specifications and possible configurations, if you have any problems specifically
to your setup, you need to make a separate thread. Obviously make sure you
follow all forum rules!

Please use the following template to post your server details:

==================================================

Hardware:

CASE: Bitfenix Shinobi
PSU: Corsair CX 430
MB: Asus Maximus V Formula
CPU: Intel i3-3225
HS: Stock Heatsink
RAM: Corsair Vengence Pro 8GB 1600mhz @ XMP
RAID CARD: LSI MegaRAID 9260-16i
SSD: Kingston value 30GB
HDD 1: Seagate 1.5TB
HDD 2: WD Red 2TB
HDD 3: WD Red 2TB
HDD 4: WD Red 2TB
HDD 5: WD Red 2TB
HDD 6: WD Red 2TB

Software & Config:
Windows Server 2008 R2
The SSD is stricly for OS and software installation only, the Seagate acts as
a temporary/dump drive for files that need to be worked on and added to the
RAID array. The WD Reds are setup in RAID 6 (2 drive parity) and give a 5.5TB
usable storage capacity.
Server runs headless, just sits connected to the router, all maintenance is
carried out via RDP

Usage:
Primary use for this is just a file server for my HTPC which is a RaspberryPI
running XBMC. I may in the near future setup the printer and playing around
with virtualbox on it, but for now just a file server.

Other:
Most of the parts in the server came from my old gaming build, and when I
was first building it i really wanted to get a Xeon for it, but meant id need a
video card and stuff and essentially would of ended up costing more so went
with the i3

Hardware:

CASE: Coolermaster Elite120
PSU: Corsair CX 430
MB: AsRock Z77E-ITX
CPU: Intel i3-3220
HS: Stock Heatsink
RAM: 8GB Mushkin Enhanced Silverline
SSD: Corsair C300 64GB
HDD 1: Seagate Barracuda 2TB
HDD 2: Seagate Barracuda 2TB

Software & Config:
Win7 Ult - OS on SSD, with IIS running a website and PLEX media server.
Seagates are for media files/my main PC backups

Usage:
HTPC sits under my TV, runs PLEX for remote media streaming (we have 20MBit upload so it's easy from outside), used to have a G860 which didn't transcode too well, switched to the i3. Is plugged into the TV too which will then direct play from the media files through a plex frontend so no transcoding.
