OC q6600 Go

For your VID use Coretemp.3.8 is good for a Q6600 most top out at 3.4-3.6,what did you set your GTL voltages to?I still have not changed mine, but I am in no rush as I need a new rad before I run 4Ghz 24/7

My VID with that program is - 1.2750v

is that it.

Just used auto till i got to 3.9 ghz then had to jump into bios and bump it a few steps at a time. next time i restart ill double check all my settings and post them up.

How ever there is no way im gonna attempt to run at 4ghz 24/7 it will just kill the cpu , think its a bad idea i think 3.8 is enough for most stuff i do. To be honest 2.6 and 3Ghz is good enough for normal work on a quad core.

Wish CPUID did all this with temps and VID instead of having to download loads of programs lol.

yep, thats your VID.mmmI was using one yesterday with a 1.2625 that woul not budge past 3.6,was glad to get mine back in.For most things 3Ghz is enough, but when I play GTA IV at 3Ghz I get really bad fps and some stuttering, whack it up to 3.6 and its fine(that game is a Ghz/mem hog),Plus I am running a PS2 emulator which only utilizes 2 cores,so it needs to be pushing 4 to make some progress

yeh that's my main reason for over clocking as my emulators all hog the CPU and doesn't really matter about the GFX. Ive nearly got most my high end arcade games running at full speed which is good.

ever emulator ever lol.

I use them all. :)

I update my emulators 1oce a week as well to make sure they all run correctly.

But my mane emulators i use the most are mame 32 plus and Dolphin

Sometimes I get stable 3.8 and then one day it's crazy and BSOD like mad. 3.4 is the sweet spot for this CPU atm, don't know why this happens as the voltages and timings are exactly the same and temperature also.

Well I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. I got a stable Q6600 running around 3.4/3.6ghz iirc, a few months back it went bsod crazy, as if it wasn't very happy at all. .. would take like 2 restarts to get the OS back up each time ... .. then settled down and has been fine since.

3.6 is good for air, 3.8 is good for water, 1.4 ish volts is nothing unusual.

Never tried to push the chip too far myself, nor the Q6700.

what motherboard and ram are you using mayhem?

i also have a q6600 which has a vid of 1.2750, it is also watercooled :) i havent tried 4 ghz... ill try to do it now.

edit

tried and i failed miserably. highest i can go is 3.8 but is not very stable (cant do prime). highest stable is 3.6ghz. maybe is because im using crappy ram and an Evga 750i ftw mobo.

Motherbord is Asus p5k ,

ram is ocz 8500 Reaper ( 2 x 2Gb)

Think you need to read through again 4 Ghz was oky until i run tests and its failed and died, 3.8 Ghz is stable for more but ive moved it back down to 3.6 as it seems to be a happy medium with every one.

Thks but got to be real honest now.

It wasn't hard.

Over clocking is far to easy. I still remember it used to take me hours just going up 400 or 500 Mhz lol. Today's equipment just makes it far to easy lol.

today im going to have a go at turning on the NOS in windows 7 with the auto asus over utility and see how fast it can push the chip on its own.

I have still been playing slowly .. getting stable only settings and so far im up to a 57.9% over clock stable. That's 3.789 ghz Over clock Testing over 4 hours.

My max temps are 45c on 95% load wich i may consider quite good witch such a large over clock only on a duel rad and there is no NB/SB water cooling just on air with only the CPU being water cooled.

It would be interesting to see the results on a 3 x 120mm rad but since i don't have one it isn't going to happen any time soon.

Ive done a video and will upload now of it running Street Fighter IV @ the rated over clock of 3.81 Ghz.

its true at the end of the day. its chip with a slight over clock. not going to brake any records and over all i archived my goal so that's it over and done with .... now what's next ....

well that's nice but im using WC and there is a little difference between sub 0 temps and ambient room temps ... unless of course you live in a fridge ....

Anybody getting 4Ghz stable on Q6600 is doing really well on water, especially with our current ambiant temps.

the purpose of the of the pic was to show that its not the chip thats holding you folks back, its all about keeping it cold enough to operate, I think that was on a single stage at around -40c

The fsb is important 500+ can you get that with lower multi? it will speed the memory as well, and make the machine faster overall
